Turf vs Industrial Tires

No problemo! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

And tires? I know what I want, quick install tracks. I remember seeing a brochure one time for all the different International Scouts you could buy overseas, one of them had some sort of triangular shaped device that went over the hubs and gave you about 2-3 feet of rubber track on the ground. I can see it, lift the rear up with the hoe, slip them over the tires like galoshes, pull some sort of tensioner, do the same with the fronts with the loader bucket, and head for the goo!

I actually saw a 4x4 Ford truck that had metal tracks like this permanently installed. Don't what the guy was using it for. (Probably to impress his friends who had only TIRES)

The local snowmobile club keeps its trail groomer near here. It's basically a rubber tire tractor on tracks. Don't know how quick install they are though. The tractor is blue.

I've noticed that many of the farmers in Northern Callifornia are using the rubber looking CAT like tred in the fields. They are the hi-track type which means the drive spur is up high and the track forms a triangle. The machines are big and they pull some large dirt moving equipment that they use with laser guides for leveling the field. When they are done, it is flat. Rat...

del,You can now by those triagular shaped addons.I saw them a Trucks on TNN..They were cool!!! They were just as you say. they bolt right on to the hub and are designed to be quick on and off so you can carry them in the back of the truck and install as need with a top running speed of 60Mph...I think the price for a set of 2 was around $800..Unfortunately I forget who makes them..But a set for tractors....Now thats a cool IDEA.......talk about traction!!!! Thats one more thing I like about the group on this site some one is always coming up with great stuff to add on..and hopefully make life more fun if not easier....and interesting to say the least..../w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Yes, that's the type of machine all right, but I doubt the snowmobilers need laser leveling. Probably take half the fun out of it.

I wonder if the steering on these things is entirely brakes. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be using road gear and depending on only the breaks for steering. But, I guess that's the way old tanks and weasels worked, and they went pretty fast.

I not sure where to drop this, so since I started this topic, I'll place it here...

I ordered a new TC21D Boomer from my local dealer a few days ago. Actually "ordered" may be a bit inacurate, as the tractor is actually in stock, along with the 60" mid-mount mower.

The only thing he had to track down was the loader.

I hope to have the unit delivered soon - who knows, maybe I'll get it in time for the long July 4th holiday weekend. Now that would be cool - four long days to play with my new toy.

In any event, I've now joined the ranks of Boomer owners!

Congratulations, that ought to be a nice little tractor. Unfortunately, when I bought mine, I had the same situation; tractor and mower in stock, but had to order the loader and it took them nearly 3 weeks to get one. We'll hope your dealer finds one quicker, but if not, it's worth waiting for.

Hawgee: After careful consideration, I decided to go with the R4 industrial tires as recommended by the dealer. The opinions seemed to be pretty well split between turf and industrial. Given that I will spend some time in a dirt (clay based) horse paddock with the unit I thought the R4s would be the best tire.
