TZ22 loosing PTO power under load

I am running a tiller. When I engage the pto it runs at normal speed. When I set it in ground it looses power. I have checked the tiller and appears all is well. I have adjusted the slip clutch but I know this was not the problem as the pto shaft just slows down when I try to advance forward. If I ease up advancing forward the tiller will speed up to normal speed. The tiller does not operate like it did in the past and has become very slow to get any work done. Any suggestions?

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? That's the first thing I would check. Also, there might be some crud in the fuel tank that's clogging the strainer at the tank outlet. If the fuel flow to the injecor pump is restricted when you apply load, the governor will command more fuel to almost hold the rpm, but if the fuel supply is restricted, the engine will lose rpm and not be able to meet the governor command.

Is there a lot of black smoke? The air filter may be clogged. This can also limit power and cause the engine to run hot.

I have change secondary fuel filter and air filter this has not solved problem. I do have the primary filter to change yet and will do that soon. I do not loose any engine rpm when pto engaged and load on but the pto shaft slows down under load. I don't believe I am putting excess load on and it should not run down to a stop as it has been doing.

Have you checked the tank strainer at the tank outlet as I suggested? Make sure all your fuel fittings are tight so they can't suckair.

Has your tractor handled your tiller before and this problem just occurred?

Is the engine bogging down or is the pto slowing down and the engine is staying at proper rpm's.

GOOD POINT! Maybe the pto clutch is slipping

Thanks for the responses. I have used the tiller with great success for the past 3 years. It is just this year the problem started. The engine rpm is fine it is just the pto boggs down. How would I adjust the PTO clutch or just check it if it is functioning correctly?

You'll need a manual or someome with one specific to your tractor for that info.
