That doesn't look bad at all. Doing some break tests would help to see how much penetration you're getting.

Needless to say, this is going to take a lot of practice
Not really! I am very impressed with that vertical up hill weld! For the amount of time you have been welding, that is very impressive!:cool2::cool2::cool2:

Oh, that little PowerArc 200ST runs about 15-amps hotter than my Lincoln V350-Pro.

I think he has already surpassed my skill level and I have been welding for over 20 years. I just don't weld often enough to really progress much. I just weld to fix things when broken and occasionally make something.

So just weld on one side, then put it in a vise and hit it with a big hammer?

Thanks...you guys are being very kind, but I'll take it!

I can definitely see how the PowerArc 200ST runs hot, but that's not a bad thing since I can only imagine it will do some pretty thick material at 200amps!

Thanks! My wife says I have a "laser focus" when I pick up a new skill/hobby/interest and I'm finding this a lot of fun, but definitely challenging. I noticed the other day that this thread has a lot of views, so hopefully it will help others as well with all the great advice being handed out!

If you have a shop press with a gauge on it. It will tell you how much force it takes to break the weld.
