RaT, have no fear - capitalism is here! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

When the price gets above $US 8-10 per gallon (which is about what it is really worth for that much BTUs of energy), then you will see alternative energy sources opened up enmass. Most of these sources will be in the US & Canada, NOT in the Middle East! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There is a shortage of cheap energy, but there is not any shortage of energy for the next 500+ years once the price rises.

Much of the fuel sold was more than 2%. Biodiesel was (and still is) $.50 to $1.00 cheaper than diesel, a lot of places were selling higher blends to make more money without posting the blend on the pump. Also not all the problems were because of biodiesel. If a filter plug and a trucker went back to a supplier do you think the supplier would say he had bad diesel or blame it on biodiesel. This wasn't the first winter trucks had problems. The first cold snap every year some people have problems. Most of them have to do with water in fuel not biodiesel.

In other words, all of the tens of thousands of verified diesel engine problems just happened to exactly coincide with the State's biodiesel mandate by accident...? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The fact that over 60% of all Biodiesel is IMPORTED from South America must have had something to do with it too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ten of thousands verified diesel engine problem? Where do you come up with this? I don't think there was ten of thousands filter sold durning that time frame munch less engines repaced.
As for happen to coincide with the mandate a lot has to do with oil companies. A "tank farm" in Marshall, MN was out of diesel, sucking tanks dry saying they couldn't get more. While the same company in Sioux Fall, SD did have not any problems keeping fuel supplied. The two places are conneted by a pipeline 80 miles apart. They used timeing to clean the crud out of the bottom of their tank. Knowing full well any problems would be blamed on biodiesel. One of the major change that happen in Febuary was that every truck load of biodiesel has a sample pulled at the plant. If an oil company mixes it with bad fuel it can be trace back them. Surpise no problems after that.

Is Minnesota still getting most their biodiesel from South America?

All the imported biodiesel from Ecuador is made from palm oil, not soybeans, and has a much better transesterification profile than soy based bio.

EarthFirst Americas, the U.S. importer, is importing 45 million gallons in 2006, and more than 100 million in 2007, exceeding the 75 million gallons the entire U.S. biodiesel industry produced in 2005.

In spite of the numerous threats from domestic soybean growers, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service ruled that the Ecuadorian biodiesel qualifies for the new $1 a gallon biodiesel credit just passed by Congress.
