So, I'm replacing the radiator in my year 2000 MF1250 (started a thread in the MF Owning/Operating forum). Found one that was damaged in an accident but has been repaired, restored, flushed, tested. Only had 82 hours on that machine, so it will be just fine for the small amount of time I spend mine. I've seen the repair invoice, so it's legit. Got it for $140 including shipping.

I've been searching for days trying to find replacement coolant hoses and a cap. The hoses are 1" x 1 1/4" by about 17" long. A couple of bends, but nothing dramatic. Cap looks like every other one I've seen. I finally found a place that has a branch that can get the parts...they would be drop shipped from Massey in Illinois to me here in Arizona. Great!

NOT!! The costs are:

Radiator cap - $35.60
Lower hose - $52.60
Upper hose - $36.70
Special Handling - $22.00

TOTAL IS $155.28!!!!

Whoa Nelly!!! There is no way I'll ever pay that much for radiator hose or a radiator cap  Is this crazy or what??

I'm going to reuse my hoses that are still in like new shape (400 hours on them) and find a 15psi (or less) cap at a parts store.

Have any of you been sticker shocked with parts that are 1000% overpriced?

I just had to rant :p

You are basiclly buying auto parts from an overseas tractor company. Paying with inflation attenuated paper dollars. Like that deficit spending addiction we have ?

Go to a car parts agency and buy there. Lots of radiator repair shops around ? Use them. Even one you could UPS your part to.

Ask for a raise at work because bread and milk is also pretty steep. Beer is still $1.00 a can. Gas is cheaper than milk currently, but tastes awful on cornflakes made in Argentina. Its a global economy....

I had to replace the hoses on my Yanmar 276D. I ordered replacements, and they weren't correct, even though the vendor insisted that they were the right ones. I ended up going to an auto parts store with the old hoses. They let me go through their inventory and was able to match the bends. I had to cut off one end or both, but the job got done.

I'd do some more research. I'm seeing radiator caps for 5-6 bucks at Napa, Upper radiator hose from TractorJoe for $15 bucks. Try your local auto parts dealer. Many of these parts fit more than one model and they can easily cross reference them.

Beer is 58 cents here.... :drink:

I'd try looking for universal radiator hose kits at auto parts stores.

I thought the $35.60 was a typo and so did the guy I was talking to when he saw the MF quote. We both figured it should be $3.56!

I've called every place within 70 miles from me and no luck. The problem is the 1" end :( I've tried so many online places, my eyeballs are ready to fall out!

Take your tape measure to a good plumbing shop and measure copper reducers and other fitting combinations.

copper reducers

Make a 2 piece hose. One inch, then reducer, then 1 1/4 inch.

Radiator shops may have something, too, especially if they specialize in commercial and industrial radiators.

Or maybe you could make the 1 inch part larger with a sleeve. If you can't find the size you need, change the size you need. :)
