Looking for the strongest, "uncuttable" chain or cable for securing equipment. Had a string of thefts at several other farms in the area and just trying to be prepared. Any suggestions? Thanks

The secret for security is to delay them beyond the point that it's worth their effort, or expose them to the point they are uncomfortable taking the risk. Nothing is going to stop a dedicated thief, but most are just out for a quick score that they can sell for drugs. A good chain and high quality lock go a long ways in deterring them, but never underestimate the creativity of a crack head. Night lights are their worse enemy, as are dogs and alarms. Motion sensors are alright, but not overly reliable. A light on all night long is one of the best ways to keep thieves away.

No such thing as uncuttable, a battery powered grinder could cut through a chain or cable in no time. Best to disable equipment by taking batteries out and/or adding hidden cut out switches.

Lol, well prepared in that way. Not a big fan of .45 but .40 cal. with 155 grain speer gold dot is always on hand, trouble is the sorry cowards always hit during the day while us honest people are at work.

Park it on an enclosed pad with two foot sides to keep the couple dozen rattlesnakes inside.
Check to see if your local coroner has a volume discount.

Tell my neighbor that. He had his new truck loaded with his plumbing/electrical equipment stolen from right under the light and in sight of the highway. Night lights give the theif 'light to work by'.

Yes, motion sensors are somewhat unreliable but they do scare away thieves when they come on.

Schools around here found that there was less vandalism when they turned the security lights off. Turns out that people are afraid of the dark and can't work well in the dark.

How about a motion sensor tied to a loud siren that is well hidden. That would surely scare the beejesus out of a potential thief AND alert nearby folks of an intruder. Have the motion sensor trained for close movement around your tractor so it doesn't go off from local traffic.

Large dog. We have a half hound/lab. Could have named her Cujo. She barks so loud and lunges at people who come over, some people are afraid to come here. Sweet dog with us just does not like it when people show up. Fine by me. But a dog can scare people off with all the noise and the threat of being bit.

Cable threaded thru hardened steel rollers so they completely encase the cable is the best youll do I think.

Yep!! A nice HOT fence charger hooked to anything that has rubber tires works (as long as nothing metal touches the ground).

There are things advertised as uncuttable, but it is misleading at best and false in my opinion. Master is marketing some locks and chains as unable to be cut, but they mean by bolt/lock cutters. To their legal minded marketing team, a grinder grinds through, it doesn't cut. The stuff I've seen has all been hex shaped instead of round.

I have a link around someplace for a device I was considering (I'll find it and post it shortly) that disabled the starter unless you touched a specific pair of contacts which you could hide anywhere on the machine. It had a means of disabling it at times you didn't want it active (taking the machine in for service or whatever) and would work on all manner of electric start machines from four wheelers to farm tractors.

I have built an equipment corral out of large boulders that I have dug up in the yard and existing trees. Unlike a traditional fence boulders are much harder to defeat without heavy equipment. You cant cut a boulder with a battery powered grinder.

Whenever I leave the property I block the corral with a vehicle and disable it so that it cant be moved easily. In addition to motion sensor lights I have video cameras set up to keep an eye on things. Anything that slows them down or exposes them especially video is a good deterrent. An old trick I use to use was to gut the cigarette lighter and use it to complete the ground side of the starter solenoid or relay. If you left the lighter popped out the car would not start if you needed you could take the "lighter" with you and no one would notice it missing, however, the car would not start.

Another good deterrent is to elevate what you don't want stolen. Putting equipment up on pallet shelving, you cant drag it away or into a truck without first getting it off a shelf. Way too much work for the average thief. They would have to get your lifting equipment started and then get the equipment loaded on their truck. If they go through that much effort you were going to loose no matter what.

I saw this at Northern Tool. It can record up to a month and can be accessed via web smart phone etc. Or a fake camera with a red flashing light, make them think they are on camera

.45 ACP with 230 gr hollow points.

Very effective...but then you are left with an annoying disposal problem....or a lot of paperwork.
