Cliff, Yes that is how it looks after blasting. Here is another photo that is more of a close-up.

Von, any idea what it looks like inside the boxed frame members? Any plans to spray or pour any rust catalysts in there?

Now that's some rewarding work Von. I once glass beaded a 1936 Buick fuel pump and it was amazing when I was finished. It had all kinds of pot metal, solid copper, brass bushings ... the blasting process was my favorite.

Thanks for the extra photo.

Very clean look. I am curious about the process you went through for that. Some of the holes appear to be threaded bolt holes. How do you protect the threads. And how do you keep other holes from getting larger? I guess I just need to try it sometime and find out. It does make for a remarkable transformation.

Cliff, I just stripped it down and blasted it, you do have to scrape off any grease and tar. But the pressure washer took care of most of it. As for the holes, there are only about 10 that are threaded. The rest take bolts w/ nuts. The threads just get real clean! You don't take off any good metal just the rust. If the threads were really rusted to begin with, then they were no good anyway. I will chase them with a tap after painting and before using them.

Don, The box sections are only on the front part of the frame and are open on the ends. There is not much rust on the inside. I will spray the rust sealer paint inside as best as I can and be done with it. I guess they don't get the exposure like the outside does, plus the box sections are 1/4" on the inside part, 1/2" on the outside. It would take a long time for it to rust out! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Von,

The 'mog is looking great! I can't believe how much progress you've made so far.

You do know that once you finish, all TBN members who travel within 100 miles of you are going to want to stop by for a ride.
