Well time for an update! I got the frame all painted /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Used the Eastwood rust paint first and then their epoxy chassis black paint over that. Gave a great finish. I used one of those cheap HVLP spray guns that I got from Harbor Freight for $39.00. Worked just as good as my $300.00 gun! Plus if it gets wrecked or clogged from the paint I don't care! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif This photo is of the frame as it now sits waiting for me to get everything else done. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Heres one that shows the engine after painting /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Quite the difference! This was taken right after painting, looks even better with all the tape pulled. I used the Eastwood rust paint as well, and then used Detroit Diesel Green engine paint. It is real close in color to the M-B green.

Great updates. The engine looks terrific. I'm wondering if when you're all done you'll be willing to use the thing. It may be too perfect.

Not much to add, just a better photo of the engine as it is going back together. I'm now working on the tranny and will be posting some photos of that soon. Von

Lookin' good Von. Now, if you can get it to run 1/2 as good as it looks, you'll be in great shape. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Von, what's the name of that engine spray color. I've seen something very close to that in vintage packards, buicks and fords.

Orange will be a good contrasting color to it btw.

Great progress. Drooling.

DAP,
The color is Detroit Diesel Alpine Green. I think the packard green is closer to the M-B green, but the Detroit Diesel Green was what the auto store had on hand in cans. I know you can spray just enamel on a engine, but this stuff is rated to 500 F. so I used it instead. Plus I was just too lazy to mix paint, and it was only $3.87 a can! Had to use 3 cans though, but still cheaper than buying a mixed paint. I hope to be painting the tranny soon, once I get it all back together! Then its on to the axles, boy what fun!
