United Way At Walmart Today Looking For Donations.

I was at Walmart today, at the entrance, there sat an older man, at a folding table,,
The table had several T-shirts, and some military themed ball-caps,
He also had a donation box, and a banner across the front,,

"Donate to Help Veterans"

Now, where do you think that money goes? I have been a vet for over 45 years, no one ever offered me a nickel,,,

That was before we got sue crazy. I would never allow a kid working on my property because of the liability.

These charity collectors get a mention every so often on current affair shows as they keep 50-80% of what they take, yet the charities are still in front and get more than they would by trying to raise it themselves, even the tin rattlers in the shopping malls get 50% of the takings then the company takes a cut of what is left.
I give to our local volunteer fire service and that is about all as I know they use it to supplement equipment upgrades.

And they never will... Most are legal scams to make a few rich, Look at the money they pull in from cancer, if someone came up with a cure they would come up missing pretty quick..

When my nephew started college he hoped to help find a cure for cancer. 15 years of post HS education later he is finally done, after graduating with a post-PhD (whatever that is); and he says that there never will be a true cure due to the nature of the disease. All that we can do is do our best to prevent it; while they find more and more effective ways to treat it once we do get it.
Early detection is the first step.

You would think that charities of such standing could find retired executive philanthropists to manage the organizations gratis...

Exactly. How much more charity could they do if the head folks weren't making such salaries. You think they couldn't find extremely capable folks for 100k/yr ?

Years ago, Elizabeth Dole (wife of Senator Bob Dole) was running the Red Cross, and talk was she might run for President....but would have to take a serious pay cut, as the RC was paying her twice what the President of the United States was making. Something wrong with that picture.
