Here's a second update on the slow-down issue...

I apologize that the problem hasn't been corrected yet - but hopefully it will all be corrected tonight.

Between 12:00AM and 3:00AM EST tomorrow (scheduled) the site probably won't be accessible since some maintenance will have to be performed to correct the problems we’re experiencing now. Once fixed, we don’t expect this to happen again.

Sorry for the inconvenience...

Whew Muhammad I thought you might shut the board down /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif during eastern prime time.
The board maybe a tad slow, but at least were still able to have a great time.[smiling]
Try and not to stay up to late Saturday morning.

Take care and enjoy this /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif autumn.

Muhammad -

Up until today I've been totally out of synch with everyone else (story of my life /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif). I've had very good performance during times when most were complaining about speed. Maybe it's that California time-lag thing.

The last 9 of my 30 years in the computer industry was spent with networking companies. I've done both low-level and high-level router software development and finished up with 6 years at Novell. After all that, I find networking at all levels a bit like black magic. I'm truly amazed every time a chunk of data arrives intact.

Bottom line, after all those years -- it was time to stop networking and start not working. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

My hat's off to you, Dude. You're doing a great job.

You're probably fewer 'hops' from our server or something... of course that depends on your ISP, etc. Although, testing earlier today... using three comparable machines with empty cache, on the same cable modem LAN, loading the main index "on 3"... we each got different results. Mine was the slowest, taking probably 45 seconds or so, and the other two were off by around 5 seconds, but only taking around 15 seconds to load. Next time around the results could be the opposite. So, go figure! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Muhammad, Remember Sir, Modems are not created equal! Even though they may all be 56K modems, and all have the same protocol level, the through put will be drastically different between them, as well as the simple fact that different phone lines were probably accessed, which may, or may not be of comparible compatibility. As Harv said, its a wonder it all works half the time!

Well the pipes seem to be clear... server load is low... speed should be fine. My speed seems normal.

I guess speed is a relative matter, so I've just been timing my responses, and it has taken 10 to 110 seconds every time I change pages, with an average of 29.5 seconds. Of course, I'm out in the country with phone lines that are not the best and only connected at 24k, but most of the other web sites I've visited were definitely much faster.

I'm usually out of synch with the crowd, but this time I'm seeing the same performance that Bird is. I have DSL, but it's anywhere from a few seconds to over a minute today. Slowest I've seen since I joined.

And, like Bird, I'm not seeing this on other sites so far.

I must agree with Bird and Harv, my speed shows 48k. Other sites don`t seem to lag quite so much, unless my wife is on ebay at primetime.Maybe thats my problem!
