Your right. Nothing can stop a determined thief that absolutely wants to get to YOUR and only your property. A good gate, that's not easily defeated, usually causes the thief to go to the next, softer, target.

And for all, insurance is a must.

Most thieves are lazy, the more obstacles you place in their way the better you keep them out. I like your ideas here, keep them coming.

The pad lock in up inside a steel box(bottom open) you reach inside, unlock, remove lock and pull pin. The gate opens. The lock box is made from 1/2" plate and the pin is usually 1.5"+. I am no expert but I think the only way to get in with this set-up is to use oxy/acet torch.

Or they just step over it and go on foot. They can't haul much that way is all.

As much as I LOVE the way you think masks can easily defeat camera pics.

I need to shore up the entrance so my wife can feel secure, if she's there alone.

Get a picture of their vehicle though. Began thinking on security

Not all property is insurable, we tried which was one of the reasons we went through such detail to secure our stuff. The property I discussed in this and another thread was not insurable, I tried several agents and all said we had to have a residence associated with property to get it insured. We now have a residential farm policy that covers our remote properties as a part of our home property.

1bush, thank you for the link, good drawing of the gate. I finalized a gate concept, I'll use 2" schedule 40 steel for fabricating the door with 6" or 8" steel round pipe to hang and lock the door onto. I've also finalized on the locks, they will be the following:

They'll work well on my conex container as well as the workshop and gate doors. I will post pics when the entrance has been completed. My next step is to concentrate on the elctronics portion of security......

I like the lock. $20 is a reasonable price for such a innovative lock.

Unfortunately what any of us do, how well we do it, how well thought out it is, sooner or later, some thief will figure a way around it.

The 8" pipe gate or a draw bridge with sides protected from someone trying to bypass it.

Dog for when you are there, and cameras for when you are not.

I like the land mine idea.

Getting the utility to put a light and pole at the gate would be nice, even if you have to pay for it (the light). Having AC power available would increase your options, but then you need to harden your power lines against being cut or otherwise disconnected.

The ground has been drilled for the gate posts, they will now have to be cemented today or tomorrow.

But on a better note, yesterday was a wonderful day because we poured a cement pad into the barn, no more dust in the nostrils....

GCP. I take it your going for a horizontal swing, "forestry" gate? Good choice. Make sure you weld an enclosure that you have to reach up into, for the lock. It keeps it out of the weather and will slow down a crook a bit.
