If you call 1-800-ASK-USPS, you can file a complaint. The Postmaster or Manager is required to respond within 24 hours to the complainant, by phone or email, as you request. This is supposed to be monitored and tracked at the District level.

Maybe time of day makes the difference, but I tried that number and gave up there before trying the local USPS number. I do wonder how much mail was delivered to the wrong place yesterday. Fortunately, I didn't have any important mail coming here; just routine stuff.

USPS getting bad? Who'd a thunk it? Apparently our regular mail carrier (female) is on vacation, or quit, or something. Saturday, I didn't get any mail. But since I get the mail for our neighbor on the north side of us and take it in to him (he's 87 and in bad health), I found our mail in his box. Today I found the mail in our box belonged to the neighbor on the south side of us. So I took it over and put it in his box, where I found the mail that belonged 2 more houses south of there, so I took it and put it in the right box. Then again, I found our mail in the box on the north side of us.

Lest you wonder . . . all the mail was plainly and correctly addressed, and all of us have our house numbers on the mailboxes. Apparently we had a carrier today that can't read.

So I called the Post Office to let the carrier supervisor know he/she has a problem. But I guess that supervisor has no problem; only us customers have problems. Because the person who answered the phone put me on hold, and I assume went home. No one ever came back to the phone, so eventually, I hung up.

Bird, we're gonna have to chip in and get you a uniform. :)

Sorry you are having such trouble. Absolutely no excuse for that.....

Most importantly, hope all the other patrons that got the wrong mail did what you did and took it to the rightful recipient!!!

I tried again this morning to call for a supervisor in the Denton, TX Post office, got the usual recording, press 1 if you want this or press 2 if you want that, etc., etc., and then it finally said to "Hold for the next available agent. Wait time expected to be one hour three minutes to one hour six minutes." Nope, that's not a misprint or typing error. I've never had anyplace tell me to hold for more than an hour. I decided to not wait that long. Instead I sent a letter to my Congressman.

USPS is going to He|| in a handbasket.

Ordered printer ink from Amazon a month ago, they sent via UPS which transferred package to USPS. Package vanished.

Another hassle, got notification today from my insurance co. some documents I mailed via USPS 2/20 were not received.

USPS sucks more everyday, it has become totally unreliable!

Putting the mail in the wrong box is a problem for newbies. The mail is sorted into run order and the newbie is just putting the next bundle of mail into the next box along. But if there is no mail for the next boxholder that box gets the next bundle of mail and everything gets out of sequence. Names or numbers cant be relied on. Often the previous tenant's name is not removed. The married daughter has moved back home but her name is not on the box. Until a newbie learns which names (plural/multiple) are associated with box there will be mixups.

The last place my dad lived at had possibly the most inefficient mail carrier ever. It was on a coastal town, and I think they were contractors or used their own vehicle at least, as she always had a brown sedan. She'd sort for every stop; pull up to a mailbox, root through the box of mail, ferret out a piece and stick it in the mailbox, continue until at the end of the box. Move ahead to the next mailbox and repeat. Each mailbox took 5-6 minutes of sorting, and this was near the end of the run. And there was still a lot of mis-deliveries.

You have really stirred the pot now. This will generate what is called a "congressional". The District Manager now has to respond directly to the Congressman after investigating the problem. It will raise red flags at the local level, but you will still probably get a canned response.

Why can't a number be relied on? Can't they match box number on mail and box? Why would a mailbox number change if someone else moves in? If a box isn't numbered, Leave a note for the owner to number it.
