Used magazines

I can't understand why people are so afraid to have their name and address shared on magazine covers. My name, address and phone number have been in the phone book for everyone to see for over 50 years and never been a problem. Is our society that paranoid now that we have to keep everything in our lives secret?

Our recycling is resorted by prison labor. I figure if anyone can find a crooked way to use my information, it's prisoners.

I don't believe everything that anti-virus sellers try to tell me. Especially when most of them don't protect you from most events. Any kid with a smartphone can find out your name, address and phone number within minutes. People need more info than that to steal your identity. I can Google "username Industrial Toys" in forums and find out more about you than I could get off any magazine cover.

I have free AVG for secondary virus protection... they're always giving me notices of where I'm vulnerable. The last said "Everybody can see your ISP # and tell that you're in Farmington." Nice try, but that town is about 180 miles away.

I'd be happy to trade back-issues of GunTests, 1911s & Ammo, &/or American Hunter for Hodgdon reloading annuals I don't have. Shooting Times and Petersen's RifleShooter need space to be stored/stacked.

My favorite read in waiting rooms will always be Time.

Mine is The Family Handyman magazine. $10 for a years subscription. It is full of short blurbs that take 2 minutes or less to read. That's perfect for busy waiting rooms and watching all the commotion....I hope that comes back soon.

What do you do with your old magazines?

If the cover doesn't have my address glued on it, I would take them to any waiting room I have to wait in and leave it there.

But with this Covid virus, we usually are asked to wait in the car for a phone call to come in. So the waiting room is devoid of people and all the reading material has been removed.

So now we have a stack of magazines and no one to give them to. I don't want to throw them out but.....

Got any ideas?

Save them up and use them to start my field piles.

My son lives in town. He has separate recycle bins for - garbage, glass, paper, aluminum cans & yard debris. You would think the folks would get tired of ALWAYS having one recycle bin or another out at the curb, waiting for collection. This is a three year experimental program. Glad my tax dollars aren't spent on this. Garbage collection out here where I live is expensive enough having one container/month picked up.

Yep and the fines are steep as in $45 if cross contaminated i.e. wrong material in wrong container.

Don't forget the trash police that go through garbage and write you up.

Hard part is bins must be curb side 6 am and anyone coming by can add or go through prior to pick-up.

Service is mandatory and invoices not paid are paid by city and property lien placed.

Waste Management is big deal... Pizza Box Green Bin... Cardboard grey bin, food scraps green... Palm fronds trash and so on...

LUXURY! (in my best Monty Python voice)

No garbage pick-up for me, let alone recyclable separation. I take mine to the Shire 'tip' when the wheelie bin gets full.

I will save up cardboard boxes for that specific recycle container, though. Otherwise it all goes in the wheelie-bin.
