Has anyone ever found a good deal on a used or new tiller? Every time I have ever looked for a used one they are way expensive or look beat to death... I would really like to get one for next spring but don't know that I can afford one then... I can rent one for $100 a day but my time is limited when I can use one so I just don't think that would be a wise choice....

I purchased a new one. Never tried looking for used.

I've seen posts on here where some have found good deals though.

Check craigslist in your area, but be ready to buy instantly. And be careful.

I looked for a couple of years, the used ones were pretty costly, almost new in price, I found a new one that had been sitting at a dealer for 2 years. I bought a 72 in countyline for about $1200. I was seeing used 60 in units for $1500. Same experience with a PHD. Might as well buy new.

I'd take a good used one at around $800, if the tines are good. New tines will get you back to a new price quick.

Just picked up an ortolan 48" off CL for $300. needed all new tines which ran me $210 from tiller blades .com. also got a new pto shaft with a slip clutch, just in case. Changed the oil and runs like a champ, though it does look beat up on the outside in part I think it sat outside. My winter project will be to wire brush and repaint

My experiences echoed others in that after 18 months of monitoring CL, local auctions, classifieds, etc., I found that the few used implements that did surface were priced within a few hundred dollars of new. I bought new knowing that when it comes time to sell I can recoup a large portion of the investment.

I purchased a Carter and Carter, 48" with a slip clutch and PTO shaft, shipped to NM for $1200 (if memory serves).

Happy shopping!

Welcome to TBN, lots of good people and information here.
I am in NM too and agree there isn't much available used in my area. I did get a good deal on a Howard Rotavator 66" for $1000 at the Deere dealer in Mesquite TX. New unit but was weathered some.

are you referring to 3 point or self propelled?

It's hard to beat an old Troy Bilt with a bad motor. The guts are bulletproof and a new motor can be cheap.

Thanks for the welcome. Long time lurker. Hadn't realized I'd never posted. Sure have gleaned a wealth of info from this site. I should add my particulars to the sig line.
