Using a Kubota to Power a Generator for Extended Periods

That is what I would (highly) recommend. Some years ago when we had our six day or so outage on account of the big ice storm, I had just got my current standby system. It developed a small leak in the rad, lost enough coolant to overheat and the machine shut down as designed. No problem. I took the rad to a butcher, that day, who cut out the bad core and I was back in business. Not happy about the slight loss of rad capacity.

hopefully it shut down BEFORE it overheated...

I can run my 50kW pto alternator off of my 22 hp lawn mower. That way I can still use the tractor for things guys write that you need a tractor for after a storm. I'm still waiting for that to occur. However, I can't cut my grass while I'm running the air conditioner, well, garage door openers, washer and dryer and microwave. Tv's and uVerse routers, too.

I don't understand why tractors don't have a shut down feature. OR, at least a LOUD signal. I contemplated this today, while using our open station JD during daytime hours. I would probably never see the indicator light for a serious fault, and wouldn't hear the alert, wearing ear protection.

In all the years we've had tractors on this place, we've never needed it, not even once... Then again, we don't run deere tractors... lol

I have NO problem leaving any one of my tractors run over night, without a baby sitter!

A common automotive relay/socket (20-40a) can be used to trigger the horn or light of your choice. (opportunity to go a little crazy with triple air horns, sirens, strobes, etc ... and of course a 'test' button. :D)

More than one dashboard light can trigger the relay if a diode is properly wired (to 85/86) for each. Easy-peasy IMO, and OEM dash light function(s) would remain unchanged. :)

I'd use it to power a servo that flips the key off. On my older tractor I'd use it to pull the compression release. Why'd they stop putting a compression release on tractors? That will kill it under any circumstances. A key switch won't.

We have ran several tractors on out 55kw generator (dairy farm) and not scared to leave any of them run days on end. Just watch them and keep them fueled. Same with running our 2750 on the grain auger, never shut it off for up to a week of combining, just engage and disengage the pto as you pull trucks up. I will say though we have never ran a Kubota on the generator, due to the fact we had one 115 hp tractor for 6 months before we got smart and bought another Deere . But we have ran our 2750, 4450, 5105m, 6125r, 7530, 7420, and 8400 on it with no issues what so ever.

Our longest outage was around 6 days - ran a 15kw pto generator with the L345. It ran flawlessly for several multi-hour stretches. One thing I add is a drop light illuminating the tractor at night - its strange walking up to a stationary tractor turning 2000+ rpm in the dark. A neighbor shut it off once thinking it was left running by mistake :D

Man.. you guys want a million dollar answer to a 5 cent question.

For YEARS there have been gauge sets available that do what you want.

Google MURPHY SWITCH GAGE

oil, temp, etc.

hold bypass button to start, let up, then if oil pressure drops, gauge opens a circuit for you. that can be coil power to a gasser, or a fuel stop on a more modern diesel that has key-off.

If it's an older diesel, a fuel stop can be added, or a couple other options. no need to reinvent the wheel with robotic arms that reach over and turn the key off.. etc. :)
