Using a Kubota to Power a Generator for Extended Periods

I know Kubota makes generators. I looked up a 11kW unit and found out that it is powered by a little 719cc motor at 3600 RPM. I've always been told that it took 2 HP per kW. That baby must be one screaming diesel.

Are you sure it's diesel?

I'm thinking it's a gas powered engine.

Shouldn't the disconnect be on the house electrical inlet ? Stopping the tractor motor will coast down the alternator and potentially stress some of the fragile stuff inside. Sure, have an overheat alarm or flashing lights, but if the rpm goes down so does the voltage, eh ?

I guess I am lazy. I installed a Generac 9000 watt automatic standby and transfer switch. Runs on natural gas so I don't have to fill a tank. Starts its self when the power goes out and shuts down when the power comes on, so I don't have to go out in the rain or whatever, Service it once a year when it's nice out. Runs everything but the A/C and the electric cook stove. Cost me $2500.00 for the gen and switch about 5 years ago and love it.

I've run a 12kw pto generator with my Kubota L2900 for 20+ years. The longest outage was 11 days, many 1 to 3 day outages. Tractor maintenance is the key. In all that time the only problem I had while running the generator was a plugged fuel filter.

We would run the generator in a 3hr on/off cycle. Largely because I needed AC for similar reasons to the OP. It would still be my go to if I hadn't moved to a new home with a gs standby genset. Now it's my backup.

Keep your tractor in good shape and a spare fuel filter, belt, etc as ready spares and you should be fine.

I can run my 50kW pto alternator off of my 22 hp lawn mower. That way I can still use the tractor for things guys write that you need a tractor for after a storm. I'm still waiting for that to occur. However, I can't cut my grass while I'm running the air conditioner, well, garage door openers, washer and dryer and microwave. Tv's and uVerse routers, too.

Most 50kw's require 100 horsepower.

looks like about 68 hp @ 100% conversion to get 50kw

as long as the genny is only loaded up to what the engine can provide- should work, but if an additional high wattage load is applied the rpms would drop causing a loss of voltage and a reduction in frequency add to big of load and?

Agreed.. some people don't know how gennies work, and don't understand that mechanical load is a function of electrical load. Thus his 22 hp ? lawnmower? could be driving 11kw by rule of thumb.
