I can't remember if I posted this or not.. but one of my (young - 26ys old )employees just about blew himself up a couple weeks ago when he pulle dinto a gas station at night, and then lit his cig-lighter to peer down into his gas tank on his motorcycle to see how much gas he needed to purchase. Luckilly a guy was just pulling up when this happened, and whippe dout a fire extinguisher and put out the bike and my employee.. who.. amazingly only suffered a loss of facial hair and 1st degree burns.. and some again.. surprisingly minor damage to the bike...

That fellow.. and people like him.. are why there are 'fuel will burn/explode' warnings on fuel tanks....

People like him are also the reason there are "Do not eat or take orally" warnings on Preparation H. You know somebody probably called them and said they ate a whole tube but still had burning and itching. Probably could whistle good though.

WARNING: Being alive is extremely dangerous and hazardous to your health, the only time you don't have to worry about now or tomorrow is when you are dead!

If the lawyers don't get you, the undertakers will..... :D

You've got to remember the vast crossection of people here.. Remember.. quite a large percentage of the readership has no problems with permanently voiding the certification on their rops either... ( can't wait for the replies on this one.. better go get my asbestos boxer shorts... )

Huhh ROPS, what ROPS ? Three tractors no ROPS ! Not bragging, not Macho, just dont have them  It doesnt make me a bad person !

When I get that shiny brand new tractor, then we will have ROPS :)

In the mean time I will try and rely on common sense like all the farmers that used tractors for 75 years prior to ROPS  ;)

I have a fancy digital camera. Right next to the viewfinder there is a little dial to adjust the focus in the viewfinder if your vision is poor or you wear glasses. In the manual detailing how to adjust this there is a big warning block in bold print advising that you not poke yourself in the eye with your finger while making an adjustment.

On my tractor next to the fuel filler hole there is (was) a decal there indicating that diesel fuel can ignite and burn. Now, if I was a liability lawyer, I'd make some hay with that one. Anyone who doesn't know that fuel will burn is likely to hurt themselves in innumerable other ways on a machine as dangerous as a tractor. The lable should read:

Warning: Fuel is Flammable. If you did not know this prior to reading this label then you should not operate this or any other machinery, or mechanical device including but not limited to ball point pens.

The last time I did jury duty, I sat in on a case where someone lost 3 fingers under a lawn mower. The lawyer for the mower company (MTD) dutifully pointed out the warning labels in place telling the operator to keep their hands out from under a running lawn mower. With that, the attorny for the "victim" (I use that term begrudgingly) pointed out that the lawn mower was OBVIOUSLY sold to the public with prior knowledge that a terrible danger did pre-exist, hence the factory installed warning label. And don't you know come deliberation time, several jurors bought in to that thinking. Fortunately a civil trial doesn't require a unanomous vote by the jury.

HOW can you reason with "logic" like that.....? Remember the good old days when STUPID was it's own punishment.

My father-in-laws rotary mower died while he was mowing his surburban lawn. He took it into the garage to work on it. Once he finally got it started, "he stuck his right hand up under the mower deck to check to make sure the blade was turning," (Quoting his own words).

Sure enough, the blade was turning and he immediately lost his middle three digits from the center joint out, leaving a nice ring of bright red blood all around the walls of his garage (with three short pieces of mangled fingers laying on the tarmac).

I told him, next time you are frustrated working on your broken lawnmower, be sure to limit beer intake to one six pack or less......
