We got about 14 - 15" of snow here Saturday. Normally, I would use the tractor and snowblower on a snowfall that big, but the neighbors with whom we share a driveway had some gravel put down recently, and I did not want to risk picking it up and blowing it off the driveway. I tried the Honda Pioneer 520, which has a 66" KFI poly snowplow on the front. I put a couple bags of sand in the back (about 130#, total) and have square-link, diamond pattern chains on the rear wheels. I made my pass when the depth hit about 10-12".

I had no problems on the straightaways, even in very tight places near vehicles - everything tracked well even with the plow angled. No trouble going up the steep hill on my driveway. I did have a little trouble tracking when trying to turn against the plow angle plowing the loops near each house, but it was manageable with a couple of "resets" here and there. I probably should have raised the plow a couple of inches to get some weight on the front wheels, then come back and clean that up once the worst of the snow had been cleared.

This is why I appreciate a 6x6 atv for plowing snow. Good visibility, a 6ft wide blade and so much traction, I can't spin the tracks. I ran the blade within 3" of these cars.

I do that with a 10 ft back blade on my tractors.

In the Navy back in the 60s I worked as a photographer and still have my professional Nikons from way back then. The owner's manuals were like 20 pages long. Owner's manuals for my latest digital cameras are well over 400 pages long...despite using them every day I know how to use only a tiny fraction of their capabilities.

Back to working machines, pushing lake snow here. Can you really do this with an atv?

I needed about 4 tractor buckets full of dirt down into my bottom land. Rather than use the tractor to bring it down I decided to fill the SxS's bed full of dirt and drive it down. My tractor bucket holds almost exactly 1000 lbs per scoop of gravel. So this load was probably close to that. The ranger handled it fine. On the first load I thought I had made a mistake because I was BARELY able to lift the bed of dirt to dump it. Not gonna lie it sagged the a$$ end pretty good but it handled fine. This made the return trip WAY faster than the tractor. Made the right choice.

Interesting, you have the mower offset to the left and are driving on unmowed grass. Did it just happen or do you routinely drive on the unmowed instead of the mowed.
Just curious as when field mowing we always swing so the tractor is straddling the mowed windrow, the only exception being the back swath.

Typically I do drive on the mowed side. I had not split the field, so intead of wasting time driving across the headland I just kept making passes on the one end. So every other was driving on the mowed portion.

That's a neat setup. I wonder how much weight that hoist can reasonably lift given the mounting arrangement on the end of the bed
