I don't know any resturants that I'd recomend, but there are a few sites that I would recomend.
The Alamo is in San Antonio. It's a must see, and something that you can do in a few hours. It's not all that big, but interesting and great for pictures. Right across the street from the Alamo is where you will find the River Walk.
We spent a few hours there with the kids. They didn't care for it and were bored after an hour. I wouldn't make a special trip to see it, and doubt that we'll ever go back, but if you're in the area, it's worth checking out.
Sea World was the main reason we went to San Antonio, and was worth the drive. We stayed all day and was able to see everything and go on all the rides one time. There is an awesome roller coaster, plus the shows are just amazing!!
Just north of San Antonio is one of the very best wildlife drive-through parks you will ever find. It's called Natural Bridges Wildlife Ranch
Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch After you pay to get in, you can drive around the ranch as many times as you want. We went four times and each time it was different. You can feed the animals from your window with food they give you and you can buy more to keep feeding them. Some will put their heads inside your car, others will just ignore you completely. The kids had an absolute blast there!!!!!
Right next door the the Wildlife Ranch is Natural Bridges Cavern
Welcome To Natural Bridge Caverns Texas We went there next and took the tour through the cavern. We like caverns and enjoy seeing new ones. After the tour, we did some of the touristy things they had there for the kids. We bought several bags of "dirt" with "treasure" in them. The kids sifted through the bags and discovered the treasures in a sluce box type of setup. They loved it.
There was also a 40 foot tower with two zip lines on it and a climbing wall. Steph and our daughter went down the zip line, with both of them screaming all the way!! Our son wanted to climb the tower, so they straped him in and let him go. We had spent so much time doing other things that he was the last climber of the day. The instructor usualy stays on the ground and offers advice, but with Peyton, he climbed next to him and helped him through a few rough spots. With a little help, he made it all the way to the top and rang the bell!!! We were very proud of him.
The State Capital is in Austin and worth visiting. We were just going to stop in and show the kids the building. We thought you could only see the entrance area and that was it. But the building is wide open to explore, so we sat in on sessions of the House and Senate. We went to the Govenors office and our Representatives office. He was in session, but his secretary let us look around. Then we ate lunch in the cafeteria, which was pretty good.
Texas is a very big state. Be sure you plan enough time to get to all the areas you mentioned. Nothing is just an hour away. It's several hours to half day or days away.
