We stay at Well's beach every year. They have a decent auto museum there if you like. There is also a train yard further north that has all kinds of vintage rail cars. You can take a short train ride into the woods also. This is not in Wells but easily found on the many available brochures.

Rustyiron;4797674...spend a day and stay the night out near Mt. Washington in NH. [/QUOTE said:
If you want something a bit special, take the cog railroad to the top of Mt. Washington:
Mount Washington Cog Railway - Climb to the Top of Mount Washington on the world's first mountain-climbing Cog Railway trains!

Even on a hot day, it's cool on the summit...might want to carry a sweater or light jacket. BTW, Mt. Washington holds the record for the highest winds in the US. IIRC, the wind was measured about 240 MPH....the year was 1938.

Check the train schedule carefully!
Pay the extra fare to ride one of the STEAM powered trips!
It is a classic experience that you will likely never have again!

I love the Cog! Was sad to see they retired the steam engines. Iirc the do run them early in the AM sometimes.
I know the OP won't have a motorcycle, but that's a very fun way to the top also.

Didn't see anyone mention Booth Bay, if you are going to Bar Harbor, you have to see Booth Bay, I like it better than Bar Harbor. My wife and I use to go to Ogunquit every year and stay at the Cliff House, great place. I agree about the Marginal Way, a great walk with nice restaurants at the end and nice shops too.

Why is that? Google turned up no clues for me. :confused3:

You might have to google Reds Eats. I've seen traffic backed up 2-3 miles in both directions just so people can get a lobstah rool at Reds, at times the line of people is 100 ft long, across the street that seafood place has half dozen people in line, and at 3:30 pm I'm trying to get home after a hot day of working, so you can help out my summer journey home by getting the lobah rool at 6pm.
