Vacuum cleaners - Oreck?

I like the idea of a bagless vacuum and one in which you can see when it needs emptying, but I've read that some have a filter that's more trouble to keep clean and/or replaced than the bags. I think I want a bagless when we have to buy another vacuum, but since our old Wind Tunnel by Hoover is only a little over 11 years old, I hope it isn't too soon.

Bird,

We've got one of those Hoover Wind Tunnels, too. I think it works fine, but the wife complains about it a lot.....mainly when she runs over the cord (again) and it stops working until I fix the break and tape it up. She also doesn't seem to like that the bag fills up. Other than changing the bag for her I'm not real sure what to do about that!

Chuck, so far my wife has only damaged the cord once, and she won't change the bag until it's tightly packed. Nearly every time I use it, I change the bag and take the machine outside and blow everything out good with the air compressor.:D

I shifted to my new home few months ago discarding my old vacuum cleaner(The Dyson DC40 upright vacuum).
It had several issues one of the most irritating was its short cord.My new rooms floor are of hardwood and rugs and recently bought a pet "miniature american shepherd".After going through a lot of research taking suggestion from friends and family I bought a Shark Rotator Powered upright vacuum it cleans pretty well and tackles the pet hair very well which was my main concern and it has lot of attachments too hope this is informational to you.

Wow! This thread is from 10 years ago. And since then, we too have gone to a Shark Rotator, with attachments, that we both like better than anything we've had in the past.

We've been using the Dirt Devil Pro Power XL Pet upright. After having an older Dirt Devil for about 12 years it was due for a replacement and we found the Pro Power XL Pet at Home Depot for under $80. It does a fantastic job with plenty of power, and $80? No brainer. That was a couple years ago, and it works so well we picked up another one this year to keep in the basement. It's hard to believe they clean so well, even compared to the expensive Dyson at my dad's house.

I have a 40 yo Kenmore that still runs fine. Had to buy a bulk pack of bags off Amazon a few years back when Sears stopped keeping them in stock.

Last December I bought a DeeBot. I just use the Sears vac for my Robo Cut now.

We have a ten year old Oreck xl. We also have 2 indoor dogs. The Oreck works well for my wife as it is lightweight, and we don't have any carpets. She seems to like it, bags are easy to find. Cord is longer than most we had in the past. If it didn't work well, I would have heard about it by now.

Love old posts that come back to life!!!

Our next high dollar vacuum will probably be a Shark. We have a lot of friends in the Show Dog world, which means constantly vacuuming up dog hair. The Shark seems to be the one they all like the most.

We've recently discovered a Roomba type clone called a Deik that was on sale on Amazon for $99 that has been amazing. Not perfect, but it's nice to have it running while doing other things. You have to be there when it's running because it gets lost, stuck or just decided to keep working in one small area over and over again. When this one dies, we will probably buy the Roomba, that seems to be the one that everyone is most happy with. It really does a nice job!!!

I currently have three vacuums. An Oreck, an exceptionally heavy Miele and a rechargeable GTeck. They all do a great job. I especially like the GTeck. It's very light weight - easy to clean - does an exceptional job on volcanic ash and dog hair.

Volcanic ash will eventually be the ultimate downfall of all three. It gets into the motor/bearings and will grind things to bits. I rotate using the three. Probably will last as long as I need.
