Vacuum Pump Needed

Hey,
I vote for a foot valve also!

Now here is an idea---

Plumbing supply houses will have a 4" ABS back flow valve, also known as a sewage back water valve.

That is in the reasonable price range and you then would add a 4" ABS (male or female) pipe thread adaptor.

The unit is all ABS with a flapper valve that will retain your prime, so you will prime only once.
I would fashion a 'cage' of some sort to keep out trash otherwise the smallest twig could hold the flap open.

Probable price $60.00 or so.

Call it 'The poor man's foot Valve"

I bet a proper brass foot valve would run over $300., heck a 1.5" is $50,!

Good luck!, and hey it WILL work.
I once did just that, but using a 2" backflow valve.

Good idea on the check valve. both will work fine.. and the check valve is waaaaaay cheaper!
