Well, I finally got around to tightening that bolt I had to buy the monster wrench for....and it was very loose. Never would have known to do that if it wasn't for you guys here.

I am a little curious also about the tightness of that nut. Were there any instructions about how to tighten that nut, or did you call Terry. Or did you go by what someone said on this forum? How did you know when it was right?

I have been wondering about that too, concerning possible damage to the joint or stripping the thread. I put my foot on the back tire and put some real torque on mine. After wards I started to think about this. How tight is too tight?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've attached a torque chart for standard SAE hardware bolts. Note two things:
(1) Values above the line for small bolts are in inch-pounds not foot-pounds and
(2) Lock nuts are to be torqued at 65% of these values per the footnote on the chart
