So I have to ask, has anyone ever tried to lay the tire on it's side and break one bead and just pour the fluid in? You would need another tractor to lift the tire back up but it would make filling the tire very easy.

I didn't do it with a 'large tractor tire' but the concept is the same as I did with my old Cub Cadet. So I have to ask, has anyone ever tried to lay the tire on it's side and break one bead and just pour the fluid in? There are several things that can cause the fishkill you described.
One is a total freeze that can allow toxic gasses to build up.
The other is called a "turnover".........That is when the bottom layer of muck, gets too heavy............and you have a 'coinciding' cold front coming in with a lot of rain.
It changes the water so that it basically.............'turns over'............
The most noticeble thing will be that the water will be 'black' on top. I don't think you experianced this because you had surviving fish.............large fish usually die first with oxygen depletion.
Last year I bought RV antifreeze for $1.79 a gallon at WallyWorld. It was late winter/early spring long after most people worry about winterizing (you either did it by then or have busted up stuff). If you guys that want to load up the tires can wait until Feb., you can probably get a better deal.Soundguy - I'm guessing you are suggesting diluting the RV antifreeze that is sold in stores?
Our RV antifreeze is made of gold here in Canada. 4 literes - just over a gallon for $9.49. It is fancy Prestone stuff and is meant to be used straight without dilution. Apparently it is good to -50 Celcius. On the downside it is more expensive that beet juice!
I'll try to see what bulk prices are like. Perhaps the Napa store or a wholesaler has a good deal on WW fluid in bulk as well.
It does seem crazy, but honestly, when I bought my Koi I paid all of 4 dollars apiece for them. They were only about 3 inches long at that time.Thats nuts...
And im a "Fish Guy" . Kept fish for the last 20 years. so i know the prices of tropicals. $25 Angels are my limit.
Tying that kind of coin up in an outside fish that can go TU, fly away or get eaten by the neighbours cat at a moments notice is crazy...
