I was curious about the methanol, so I looked around a little. Turns out that it is lighter than water, and extremely toxic.

And it can be absorbed easily through the skin. Extreme care must be taken when using methanol. 2 tablespoons can kill a child, probably half of that to cause permanent blindness.

Gross exaggeration. When consumed orally it is toxic to be sure. You'd have to take a bath in it to absorb enough through contact.

Do you call for hazmat help every time you use your windshield washer? That is 10-20% methanol.

I'm finally back in town and my tractor deliver is set for Tuesday. WWF is going to be ~$370 and beet juice is $630.

I'm thinking the extra weight at that price difference might be worth it. Thoughts?

I STILL say you Canadian folks are a tough sell. (get the WW wiper juice) $260 is still $260

I don't understand why people mess with stuff like "beet juice." Good grief, just use water with antifreeze in it.

I've priced out water with PG anti freeze and it is not particularly affordable in the temperature range I need it to be (-30 degrees C).

The cheapest stuff here is -50 rated and $12 for 2.5 gallons. At best that could be diluted to 50% for -25 degrees. That is $432. Less convenient than WWF or Beet Juice as it comes in 2.5 gallon jugs instead of 55 gallon barrels. It will have a a freeze point higher than both. It weighs as bit more than WWF but less than beet juice.

Thats why.

I say for the extra $260, go with the beet juice... heavier, non-toxic, and when you look at it compared to the total investment in your tractor it is a no brainer. In addition to the extra weight, you will have the peace of mind knowing you have the best product for your need.

the 'non toxic' issue is a moot point.. there are nt af mixes available..

it's what I would do.. however apparrently, some palces are ripping people off on the price of antifreeze.

here in florida it's not a huge selling item.. and thus it's affordable. apparrently in some places af costs 2-2.5x a gallon more than it does here.

that makes a huge difference in a water/af fill in fl vs say michigan or canada..

i personally like the af product. if I need to pump it out.. I can actually re-use it in a radiator if needed ;)

Update: I've changed my mind and decided to go with WWF. I'd prefer to get my tires filled sooner and the WWF can be delivered quickly for no charge. Besides, having the cast wheels already helps with weight.

Also realized that my diesel tank is running low and diesel ain't cheap these days.

3x$120 = $360 for 165 gallons of WWF good to -40 degrees. I have to pay a deposit of $50 per barrel but I will get that back right away when I return them. I'll have to keep one barrel around for the 15 or so gallons that are unused - unless I can find another spot for it.

Wish I was getting it for the kind of price FarmwithJunk gets it for but for around here in Canada these prices are the best I can find.

I know your not interested in gallon jugs, but i just saw a commercial for wal-mart where they have WWF on for about $1.50 (IIRC) a gallon! Cheaper than bulk! Didnt notice the freezing point, but its likely winter fluid at this time of year.
