so lets see if i have this right

used bridgeport $1500
used southbend $2000
new MM 250 $1300
new plasma $1200
built plasma cnc $500

spending $7500 on tools to build a root rake grapple for $300 instead of buying one off the shelf for $1200

(not quite priceless) :D

John,

I do not yet have the monster I want, yet, however, I have pullled a permit(needs to be renewed of course), have plans, and will start to dig as soon as the snow melts :) To follow schmism's logic:

30k for land
10k for a backhoe
7k for a bandsaw mill
25k for pickup

All to build this shack :)

It not a circle it is a spiral...

Bought a ATV to have some fun...
Bought 24 Acres to ride the ATV on...
Bought a lawn mower that couldn't hack it...
bought a JD4110 to replace the lawn mower...
Built a barn to put it all in...
Bought a L3830 with backhoe to grade around the barn...

I may be a mental patient but I am enjoying the ride

what's that ol' sayin,

necessity is the mother of invention, well, that's one helluva mother! she's got me thinkin I need to invent/build/buy to build everything I "think" I need!

I don't know if I've gotten as bad as the "new for $100 but I can build it for $300" yet, but I've know I've come close.

Just practicing with some tools can incur some cost(ie; the wife wrapping a chain around the FEL only to cause one of the grapple claw hose fittings to start leaking). I know I'm not innocent but now that I think about it, she has mutilated a Bush Hog (heavy duty) brand brush cutter(this will most likely be the job where I gain my most experience to date in metal/fab/welding work), bent the holding pin in the scraper blade(still trying to get that out), bent a couple places on the auger, and that's just the tip of the iceberg! So in one way I'm thankful for the experience I'm getting on the other hand, she's costing me a lot on repairs vs. the stuff I could be buying to build new....yes it is a spiral!!!!!!...... a love spiral..:D

Nice job on the outbuilding you built. I need to build a building like that for the lawnmowers and other garden tools we have.

Have someone give you a free wood burner and see what it ends up costing you.

Do you mean a woodstove? So you need to buy a chainsaw, logsplitter, tractor, pickup and buid a storage shed for the wood.

That's what I meant, anything that burns wood for heat so you caould save on the heat bills. (starting from scratch)

Did you know that wood produces more heat than any other resource. You get warm cutting down the tree, splitting the logs, lugging the wood, stacking the wood, loading the stove and finally when it's burned.
