Hi
Tractor was a 640 not 641.
It is not a operational problem, but an installation problem.
I bought a 600 which was an operational tractor but had the motor
taken apart because the owner suspected the motor was knocking.
Years ago I purchased a 172 running engine from a guy that was
using a ford yard loader.
It seemed like an easy way to have a good running tractor with
upgraded horsepower.
The block was reinstalled by the owner to enable me to use a
trailer to haul it away. He had left the vickers pump manifold
attached to the transmission bell housing.
I was able to change the 3.3 inch flywheel to the normal
600 one and used the 600 clutch and pressure plate. The motor went in
and the clutch pedal went up and the starter turned the 172 motor over
easily with 12 volts.
I had to install the 600 water pump because the 172 motor had
a 4 bladed fan and a smaller bolt radius than the 600.
Now my problem. I removed the cam gear cover plate and attempted to install
the vickers pump between the manifold and the engine and found that the gear
and pump housing is about 10 degrees CCW out of plumb with the motor gear mounting plate..
Is it possible the manifold attached to the bell housing got bent?
it was not leaking when I added fluid to the top of the manifold.
The vickers pump uses 3 bolts to attach to the manifold.
I happen to have a vickers pump that I bought at a garage sale years ago.
It came with an aluminum manifold and used 4 bolts to attach to
the manifold.
What may be the problem?
Can I force bend the 600 manifold or is it cast aluminum?
