Vinyl siding on a pole barn???

Kevin, I live in central New York. I also wanted my pole barn to match my house, so I put vinyl siding on it. That was 8 years ago. I have had no problems whatsoever. I'd highly recommend it.

As an extra note, I was talking to another contractor today who builds pole barns and other types of rural buildings, but when I told him where I was and showed him the plan, he suggested he quote on a regular frame construction instead. That ought to be interesting. At least I'll get a comparison cost between the two types of framing for the same building.

I have T1-11 on a 16x16 shed and have used Thompson's stain, (solid) with success. It lasts ~10 years and then simply gets a new coat. No peeling, flaking or scraping with stain. It chalks up, wears thin and then gets restained.

5 years ago when I put up my 1000 sq ft garage I could have had twice the building if I'd gone with a pole structure with the same ammenities. I helped my father build a 1200 sq ft pole barn for 1/3 the price of my garage, but he doesn't have electric, insulation or a concrete floor. The main reason for not going with a pole barn - my wife wanted an attached garage.

That's not bad, my 8x12's were over $2000 for the pair. Insulated, commercial, with windows.
