And the most overlooked thing about all of this is the 2nd amendment give a person the “force” to protect his 1st and 4th amendment rights! It allows one to fight back!
Take our guns and we can’t stop them from shutting down our free speech or forcing themselves into our homes to do unreasonable search & seizures.

The schools are the primary blame for this. Too much time spent teaching our kids about past guilt over racism and not enough time spent learning about your constitutional RIGHTS.

Don’t get me started on the schools and what they teach or who teaches it. Most of the teachers probably couldn’t pass most of the history tests we took when we were young! By the way I have tested a teacher once with some basic history and she failed miserably, simply because it’s not the material she teaches! My question to her then was this is basic history, if your teaching young kids American history how can you skip it? To date no reply on that question and she won’t let her husband come around when we have get together s anymore!

Where does it say the states have any authority to "regulate" individual rights?
I don't care what the courts have written...as far as I'm concerned, the courts have no jurisdiction over individual rights.

The other thing...blanket laws affecting all citizens because of the actions of an individual? Totally unconstitutional and is why the 2nd Amendment is in the Bill of Rights. The recent ban on "Assault" rifles in Canada is a good example. Now, Canadians are subjects, not citizens so they're probably screwed.

It is not hard for me to see the need for stricter controls in some areas of our country. I can see Mossroads point as it sounds like he lives in an area that requires it.

However, the second amendment is a right that was earned not granted by men and women who fought for it. I have no reservations on felons being denied gun ownership. They lost that right. I have no reservations of a red flag system enacted by a state, legislated by the state and governed by said state judicial system. We have speed limits on our roadways. Why don't we have limits on people who have shown they are not competent to own guns?

Unfortunately, too many people (politicians) have agendas that are anti-rights when it comes to many of our rights. Bloomberg's "Gunsense" for example...not a gun safety organization but a well funded anti-rights group. And that's the problem...
No matter what one thinks of the NRA (which definitely needs an overhaul), the organization does promote rights.
IMHO, until an INDIVIDUAL abuses a right, then that INDIVIDUAL may lose the right or have it limited.

Yes, it is pathetic.

Some states that do their own background checks are pretty aggressive about investigating when a flag is thrown on a background check. PA, Oregon, VA come up in many searches as states that investigate every denied sale.

However, it's important to recognize over 3,000,000 gun sales have been denied due to background checks since 1994. Some folks here think that's a travesty, while, and I have to correct my earlier incorrect 85% claim, 90% of people want universal background checks for ALL gun sales.

Yes, I can agree to a point. I was once a jurist who sat on a trial that the defendant was charged with attempted murder with a single shot shotgun.

Long story short, we found the defendant innocent for reasons of a totally trumped up charge. The shotgun had no bearing in the case. Anyway, during deliberations, there was one person who was not on board with acquittal. Her reason? She hated guns, all guns and was willing to send this guy to jail because of that. Not the facts, but her “feelings”. Still pisses me off when I think back about that case.

My whole point in this is there were laypeople deciding the outcome by a jury of his peers. For a decision that takes fundamental rights away from individuals, a jury, not the state should decide.
