You seem to be hung up on making up scenarios which may or may not happen. So I'll ask again; how many times has the Lincoln Tunnel been blocked by people who ran out of gas?

And here's another for you; how many EVs have you seen broken down on the road?

Well, considering the ICE vehicle has been around a lot longer in much greater numbers, you’d have to give ICE the nod. But that has nothing to do with the point I’m making.

And here's another for you; how many EVs have you seen broken down on the road?

I’ve seen a few. But Running out of charge in an EV or gas in an ICE has nothing to do with reliability. I mean come on, you know that.

Ran out of gas once…

Had to replace the sending unit.

Apparantly damaged when someone syphoned gas out of the work van.

The one time I ever ran out of gas was in the early 70s, when they'd first started putting the emissions stuff in cars. Non-vented gas cap with an air return line from the charcoal cannister under the hood. Well, somehow that hose got blocked and the bottom of the tank collapsed a bit so that when the gauge read 1/4 it was really empty. The way it was collapsed was very symmetrical and just looked like it was designed that way.

Thieves don’t syphon anymore… they just poke a hole through the bottom and fill the jug.

$1000 repair for a few gallons of gas plus out of service truck???

I had several Scouts and IH trucks. Ran great but the body only lasted 3 years. Build a diesel Scout and you have a deal.

IH travelette with a DT466 and an Allison 8 speed? That would be worth a look. We had 2 or 3 IH Scouts when I was a kid, and about 8 years ago, I saw one, running, for $800. I was really tempted, but I Knew it would be a money pit.

VW has changed the new IH trucks somewhat. I looked at buying a tandem 6x6 from a dealer that got stuck with 3 of them.
Instead of a push button allison dash mounted box, it had a rotary stalk on the RS of the steering column not much bigger that a windshield wiper stalk.
The gauge layout is different, too.

L-9 Cummins have taken the place of the Maxxforce diesel failure.

The one time I ever ran out of gas was in the early 70s

First time I ran out of gas I was young, also very lucky that I was only about 2 miles from home and I could walk home as there were no cell phones back then.

That was the LAST time I ever ran out of gas.

I was young and dumb, and luckily not young and stupid. Made a lot of dumb mistakes in my younger years, tried to learn from them all and not repeat them again.

I do like my company work truck though. When you have 60 miles left on the tank, it alerts you to how many miles you have left in gas. Generally it's the only vehicle I will run low on because I get sidetracked for work and time, and no matter where I'm at, can always hit a gas station.

Very few electronic gadgets I like on newer vehicles. That one along with the auto high/low beam and vehicle passing on side view mirrors I've come to like.
