I have heard "zoom" a lot lately.... what happened to skype?

I guess zoom is kinda like the Brady Bunch opening scene with multiple squares on one screen.

Family wants to do Zoom for 16 for Easter...

Good or Bad idea...?
Go for it! My wife and her gaggle of sisters have done it a couple of times. Zoom got some bad press due to some faulty coding that allowed hacking and hijacking but that has been addressed a week ago. Much more secure now. As long as you aren't sharing stuff you don't want to be heard like passwords, national defense stuff, etc., it is as secure as the phone.

Only a moron would go to church at this time. Being a Christian does not make someone smart or bulletproof. We attended our church service on Roku. I have met plenty of dumb Christians...but we are not of us are all dumb.

The dumb ones make the news. Many Christians do not believe in Darwin痴 theory...but still quality for the Darwin Award.

You broke my computer...

Good. Just recognize the security isn't good enough to consider it really secure.

Older Daughter and her husband came up to visit a wedding reception a month ago and now they are stuck here staying with us during the lockdown. Its much preferable here compared to travelling back home. Our house is big enough, we're getting along fine.

This morning for the second time they hosted the church youth group that they sponsor, on Zoom. Then an hour later, they hosted a larger group of friends who are literally all over the world, mostly college friends who have kept in touch plus cousins etc. This second show was a cooking demonstration. Son-in-law is an accomplished chef and once owned a restaurant. Last week when they did this there were some 60 friends participating. I didn't ask how many this time. After it was over today, they started getting photos from participants showing dishes they had made working right along with the show.

In summary - Zoom works fine. It looks like zoom meetings have become the New Normal in these strange times. Do it! And I would like to hear how yours turns out.

My sister who usually hosts easter dinner brought around stuffed cabbage and cinnamon rolls to my parents, mine and my other sisters houses. They're suggesting zoom for easter dinner. I'd be fine with a picture. We don't have a lot in common so we don't talk much.

Good point. The Zoom experience described above is in town with 50 mbps fiber via ATT. That Zoom session went fine but my experience is ATT goes down for a minute or two, at least a couple of times per day.

Just a guess but I think with slow DSL you could go very low resolution - no need to see one another in fine detail - and it should work fine for family chatter.
