Likewise there are many outlets near here. Probably not a many as you have there, but still enough. Actually Dollar general stores around here have quite a bit of grocery things, as well as Target and other stores of their ilk.

I think I talked to you about my wife and I driving around the Branson area a while ago, heading down to Arkansas, over to OK and back to Branson, and were kinda surprised that at about every intersections of state highways was a Dollar General store, an old abandoned gas station, and usually a newer gas station. Dozens and dozens of them.

Well, they're popping up around here now, too. It the oddest of locations. Way on the outskirts of town, far between towns, etc... Kinda interesting business model.

Prices are outrageous but the alternative is to drive another 125 miles. Amazon has actually been a blessing with the free shipping to my front door.

10 miles to any store here. Around here, many of the small towns have a Dollar General only and no grocery store.

How far are you from a grocery store?

I ask, because I just did a google search of "grocery stores near me" and limited the search to 5 miles.....

I got tired of counting at 75. :confused2:

Granted, not all of them are large. They considered Dollar General a grocery store. But there's a ton of places to get groceries here. So, it makes it too convenient to think about stocking your house, when you can just stop in somewhere close to home anytime you're running low.

There are no businesses of any kind within 5 miles of me. 10 miles gets a small town grocery store/gas station (that doesn't carry much) and a DG. 15 miles gets another small store (that doesn't carry much) and another DG. It's 20+ miles to the first real grocery store.

I'm not sure I'd have 75 grocery stores in a 75 mile radius. Maybe, but it'd be close.

I suppose we are fortunate to even have a grocery store seeing that our area is slowly dying. Our school district has shrunken from 9 schools to just 3 and we have no industry due to high fuel and power costs. Being a Retiree here is becoming tougher and tougher.

That's what you get when you live in Lower Uncton!:D

We have not been to any store, grocery or otherwise since January or so. We eat real food cooked from scratch. Powdered milk and eggs work in most recipes and frozen fruit is just fine for smoothies. Frozen and canned salmon help to stretch our meat supply. These people that need to run to the store every day are nuts.

If you had 5-6 places to buy groceries within a 20 minute walk from your house, would you go more frequently?
