Sometimes it;s the quiet ones that cause the most trouble. Fence won't make much fuss under the cutter, just bogs you down until clutch slips., It leaves the commotion to you when you do surgery with wire cutter . I'd rather a stump, bicycle, or even the anvil. my cutter discovered couple years back.

i hit a hornets nest last summer mowing some trails and i know i was the loudest thing around. the last one that stung me was over a quarter away from where i hit them. must have been pretty funny to see me running with the tractor in high and me swatting at those vampirous s.o.b.s. sometimes aquiet evening on the porch is a better alternative.

It seems that the bees nests give everyone here the most problems. Every year I mow our back field I play " were is the bees nest this year?" Sooner or later I find it . I'm starting to think it is the same bees just a different spot. Pretty soon I should be immune to the sting anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I did mow a guys field last year that I have never been in and he had a VERY old falling down house on the edge of his field. I found out that it did have a very thick well pipe sticking up beside it.. Sure glad he gave me a heads up on that one ! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

The bees are the worst. I actually went and got the epinephrin shot just in case theose buggers get ahold of me. A single sting will swell up the area in a several inch radius so 10 stings on my neck could put me down for the count.

Usually as I mow in circles or rows I will get close to the nest on one pass and the next time I come around the swarm is up so I know to avoid that area. This happened once and the bees spread out over an entire acre looking for something to sting. I resolved to bring a can of the nest killer since after they settled a bit I could get right up close to the hive. Our hives are undergrounf here.

I enjoy the big field mice. I hit maybe 5 per acre but hundreds of them scoot out in the open to escape the blades. It doesn't take long for the crows to come in and enjoy the free meal.

My worst hits have been bundles of wire fencing and low piles of concrete drain tiles. My biggest surprizes have been finding the soil test holes where some goofball and a bakhoe dug 6 foot holes and leaves them open for the septic guys. The septic guys don't backfill and then the gass grows eye high. Watch out for those holes and the piles of dirt from the excavation.
