WAKE UP!

Well, I have two. Scariest was hitting a ???something??? and having the hog shake like crazy. Stop, raise it up, shut down and look. One blade is now just a stub. Don't know what happened to the 5-7 pounds of sharpened steel that was launched at 15,000 fps.

Worst was hoggin over some bushy trees and finding a nest of half dozen worn out logging cables with the chokers on em. Man, that is just nasty getting all that sharp wire shards out from everywhere they get wrapped.

Stumps and rocks are so common, my reflexes make my body stomp the clutch and raise the 3pt without any thought at all.

Lots of good stories! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif...I think the worst I have hit was a partially buried milk crate...the old steel wire type. It took out the sheer bolt but still broke the front PTO joint also.
As far as hitting something unpleasant...a few years back the North Dakota DOT contacted a local TV station and had them issue a warning to motorists traveling on I-94. DOT road crews who were mowing ditches along the interstate were frequently hitting 20 ounce plastic soda bottles filled with urine which had been thrown out by motorists. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif The newer DOT tractors have cabs but they still use some that only have ROPS.

Hit an old almond tree stump 3 weeks ago when I was brush hogging 3-4 foot weeds that benefited from about 3 months of heavy rain up here in the North Valley. Thought I had ID'd all the stumps, but I missed that one last time I checked for mowing hazards.

The collision killed the engine on the 21-hp Kubota B7510HST but the shear pin held on the 4-ft KK hog's PTO shaft. Thought I might have damaged the PTO transmission, but I started up again and everything was normal. I'm using the shear pin that KK sent with the hog. Maybe I need to get one that's not so stout. Or a slip clutch.

Last Saturday I was bush hogging the right of way on the road I live on and hit dead armadilla. It made a heck of a racket too. I was surprised by how little damage was done to the armadilla too.

This isn't really a story about hitting anything, but it scared the snot out of me anyway.

I bought my 4" KK hog about a month or so ago. One evening, I had the tractor and the hog in the garage. Thought I would hook them together and get the PTO shaft cut to length.

Anyway, got her all together, the shaft trimmed, with no more than the expected hassle. Started the BX2230, set her at about 1/3 throttle and engaged the PTO. "Kabannnng blam blam bannng," she says to me, and the tractor died.

Now I was on my concrete garage floor. I was pretty certain I hadn't hit anything. The tractor had maybe 10 hours on it and, like I said, the RC was brand new. I was irritated. Raised her up to have a look and the blades had managed to tangle themselves together. That was a fun one to fix. I have now put maybe 10 hours on the hog itself and never had another problem with it.
