wallenstein logging winches

Remote on logging winches has always been very expensive.

The remote on my Farmi has an 8' range and looks a lot like a rope. I have a small winch and like others have said once you have one you'll wonder why you didn't get one sooner. I would recommend a self releasing snatch block. For my use with limited access and dense woods it really helps to be able to pull around a corner. My uncle had an interesting take on a logging winch. He said it is like a farmers combine. You may only use a few weeks out of the year but when you need it, nothing else will do.

X2 on the snatch block. A good self-releasing snatch block is not cheap, but unless you always operate the winch in wide open areas, it's almost a necessity.

If you google "self releasing snatch block" you will get quite a few hits. You probably won't find one locally as it is a specialized item. I bought mine with my farmi winch as a package deal with winch, chokers and snatch block. Their web site is Tractor Mounted Winches - Farmiwinch.com

I was at the Sawmill EXPO a couple weeks ago, a guy was selling them there and had a "show spl." of $270.00.

We talked quite a while and he offered me one for $250.00, but it's so seldom that I could use one, I just couldn't bring myself to buy one.

I have snatch blocks, they just aren't self release...

The most common here are Farmi and Fransgard, but they all are similar. I have had each of those that were very used when I bought them. Now I have a Uniforest 35.
Like everyone else said once you buy one you will wonder how you ever got by without it. I've used mine to move small buildings, pull my pickup out of the mud, raise the walls on my shed, and as a counterweight for snow plowing in winter. Last winter I drove my snowsled up on the snowbank to load it into the pickup and buried it to the windshield. I pulled the keys and hooked onto it with the winch tat night to pull it out.
Oh yeah, I've also brought out a lot of wood over the years with mine.

Hi,

I am new to the tractor world and just got my first one to work in my wood lot. I got the wallenstein skidding winch on my kubota MX5200. The skidding winch is with remote control. I got everything hooked up and when i went to test it, the winch didn t engage. I have power on the remote control box, PTO is turning fine...but nothing happens when i try to engage the winch, either from the remote or the toggle switch. The green rope for the clutch was not doing anything but is now locked.
Being new to all this, i could have missed something but i believed i followed the starting procedure properly. Can anybody guide me there and help me correct my mistake if i made any?

Thanks a lot everyone!
