I was thinking that with the 1430 - I would take a pipe out the
side and up - with quiet outboard muffler - I guess you would not be able to do that - but I don't know much about diesels
Also I don't want to retread old tires - i know you guys discussed this in another thread
I wonder why they used the air cooled unit (it is oil cooled though right?) I looked at the Deutz site - looks like they use those engines in mining - maybe thats why - Deutz does make the liquid ones as well

As I have limited experience, I'm not the best source for backhoe feedback, but that said, here's what I have found:
The breakaway capacity is impressive....rocks, stumps offer little challange if the bucket curl leverage is applied right, but it has taken me a while to grasp technique. I have yet to dig down a full eight feet, but have no doubt it does that....you would however, essentially be digging below your feet, so my guess is it would require a lot of leaning forward to see what was up.
The limitation I find thus far is with the swing factor..(60 degree I think). If you are just digging a hole you plan to refill, it is not a problem, but if you want to move material, a lot of tractor re-positioning is required. My workaround is to load the mule and move to dump. A wider swing would not be a huge improvement, so I'm probably being overly critical. All in all I'm quite pleased to have it and have a list of projects lined up for it.

I know - I am not much of an operator myself and was having trouble digging - but my excavator friend jumped on it and he cranked the unit right up and was digging great with it
-So that tells me that ME the operator was the limitation
Since that time I did get better with it - Also the swing you
speak of - I think that is common to all backhoes - Some
probably go more than 60 - but my friend has one
backhoe and two excavators and he won't use the backhoe unless he has to - because of the stability, speed and the fact
that the excavator swings 360 degrees
But for me - the backhoe beats a hand shovel any day

Ed: Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with a 1430. I drove one at the factory, and a few months later went down to buy it. I came back with a piece of paper saying I owned an 1845 and a bunch of attachments. The 1430 is even a little more rackety than the 1845, since it is 2 cylinder rather than 3, but Pro Ears take care of that.
I would think that the 1430 would be great with the 60" deck. The 72 doesn't do as pretty cut, and would be a lot of load for the 30 hp.
But, as I wrote you in a post that apparently I didn't complete sending before disconnecting, I have a compromise to recommend. Instead of selling the 425 and buying a 1430, keep the 425 and supplement it with an 1850. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Oh I almost fell off my chair laughing - I am screwball enough to do that - I spend a fair amount of time every day dreaming about attachments - their price sheet is addicting because it lists every single attachment the unit takes
Well I would like to make my decision without going back down there because it is not easy to get to (by plane)
but then again - I coud play around with the machines for a day
I just came in from plowing - that thing really is an animal -
I bent my plow believe it or not - I tried hammering it back with a sledge - it didn't move much - that is thick steel - I guess I will have to try heating it - I was going real fast pushing a huge load and didn't lift the blade fast enough to clear the curb - smacked my head on the roll bar as well - that will learn you quick not to make that mistake again (they don't have a spring on that plow)

We here in No. VA. recieved 6"-8" of the Beautiful white stuff. I was out in the ATV plowing away for 2 hours. We have a very long driveway, but the little (280cc) ATV has a 48" blade on it. I tld the CFO that a bigger machine would work MUCH better, and give me more time to work on the dreaded "honey doo" list.
I also have that beach front property in the back that looks more like a swamp.
If you dont try to sell, it will never get sold!
