Actually, the news pushed the stock up more than a buck, past $41/sh.
I own HD stock and am happy with recent upturns.

ok here is the latest development on my door install. My special order door came in during the holidays. After i got to a point where I could cut the hole in my living room wall to install it. I called the store up to set up an install. I was told that within 48 hours an installer would contact me and then come out to see if my opening is correct and decide how much to charge for the install then they would set up an apointment to install my door and that seems to be running around two weeks. I have talked until I am blue in the face to get them to bring out the door when they come to take the measurements and then install it. I have gotten absolutely no where. They have totally refused to consider doing that. I have pointed out that I have a 5 ft 4 1/2 inch wide by 82 1/2 inch tall hole in my living room wall that is covered with two pieces of plywood and that last weeks temps were in the mid 20's and this is January we could see more cold weather any time. The hole is exactly to the specs they gave me for the new door. Still told no. They told me the installer might have to do some more work than a standard door install of 285.00 and they might have to charge more. I pointed out that it was a 3000.00 door and i did not care if I had to pay extra to get it installed. When they said they had no way of knowing that I would pay it I offered to put it on one of my extra credit cards with a very high limit. They still would not consider making just the one trip and installing it. I have asked to speak to the district manager. Even though I was on the line with the store assistant manager and the customer service rep, even though the assistant manager said that the manager would agree with him since it was policy. I still have to waste time talking with the store manager before I can talk to the district manager. Customer service has told me that because it is policy that they cannot escalate the problem any higher than the district manager even though the assistant store manager told me that policy is the policy of the installer. I have asked to talk to a customer service manager and was told because it was a policy issue that I could not talk to a customer service manager. Somehow the word customer service seems misused. I wonder if anyone at home depot cares that I spent 10,000.00 at Lowes in 2006 and only 3000.00 at home depot and that was only because lowes did not carry the same style door and my wife really wanted that style.

Nope, they don't care that you spent at Lowe's.
Plain and simple.
Thats the whole underling "policy' of the big chain stores. Just make the big bucks and don't worry about the employees families etc. When things get to look like People in town are seeing this "policy" They wheel out some 2,000 donation to a charity.

update on my door issue. I talked to the store manager and insisted that I wanted to talk to the district manager. The store manager decided to talk to the installer while he was trying to get hold of the district manager. The store manager decided that the installer could come out and bring the door then install it without having to take a measurement. So I am getting it installed this weekend. The store manager did tell me I should be very grateful that he was making this exception. I am going to get my door installed and then have a bit of a chat with the district manager about how very grateful I should be that they are actually giving me the customer service that they pay homage to in signs all over the store.

Also.. no offense to the good people that work at some of the box stores.. but in general.. most of the help I've seen was sub-par. The last special order Item I bought at one of the 'big 2' stores... I was calle dthat it was in.. I went in.. they couldn't find it. i walked around the store and found my item on the sales floor with other similar items, waiting to be sold... The price ont he non customized items had went up since i had ordered mine.. and i actually had a hard time getting my pre-paid special order out the door as they wanted to charge me the difference!!!!

I had that happen too. Special order window. They called and said it was in . I told then 9 am the next day Id be there. I arrive and the window was supposed to be in the contractor checkout end.I looked around, and didn't see it there, and waited in line, (maybe 8 minutes).
Then was told that it wouldn't be there ,it would be ion special services.
So I went to that end of the store, and waited. (about 5 minutes)
Handed the paperwork to the clerk and said that it was 'set' aside for my 9 am pickup.
They looked around near and under the desk. This window is 3.5 feet by 5.0 feet.
She said she had found it behind the office. So i said Id go get a cart, and she replied that they have someone there to take it right out to my truck. so I waited. and a guy arrived and pulled it out to the desk.Said yep this is the one.
She checked the paperwork again and he said 'you might want to get a cart'
I went and got one as he stood there, He did lift one end onto it.Then He said Have a good day.
I wheeled it out , but got stopped again only a few feet, and was told that I would have to go to to a 'standard' checkout, not through the self serve. I told them I 'owned' it already thanks and proceeded out the door. (receipts on top of it.).
Two people came and stopped me. and then said they were sorry, I went to the lot, where a customer asked if I wanted assistance. I said I'm all set but thanks.
He replied , because they sure don't want to help.
HOWEVER.. on another visit I was very pleased with the service. More than enough help.
I think it comes and goes, and once you get in the rut. it just keeps getting worse.But next time they say can I see you slip, Ill just reply. I am a former CEO and its free for me.LOL
The attitude of the workers is when makes a company, and when the CEO gets a payoff like that , and employees ares struggling, I am sure it hard to put on a good happy hat.
