No CRA is flawless and That certainly includes Telecheck.
I've had problem after problem getting checks accepted at speedway when there is absolutely no legitimate reason for them being rejected.
I just don't have any use for these Check clearing outfits and CRAs in general as the whole set up is a racket.

You are correct. Once you write one bad check, they don't ever let you forget it, until you make good on it. I have been with Telecheck since they started up, and in the last 10 years there have been no problems for me as a merchant. I have seen people have checks rejected because they have been habitual bad check passers. If you have a problem with Telecheck, then there must be a good reason, and the reason isn't there fault. Telecheck is so good, that the Nations leading merchants use there data bank for check acceptance. Instead of complaining about them, why don't you put that effort into resolving your problems with them directly? That is what my customers do when there is a problem and the problem goes away, once they pay the bad check and the bad check fee.

Are you speaking from direct experience with Telecheck from a customers point of view? I think NOT.

Go and try and find out how Telecheck denies a check. Find out the reason for denial and how to avoid it.

The problem does not simply go away.

I have worked with Telecheck as a merchant, however, I have also helped customers to resolve issues with Telecheck in the past. Your check writing history has a lot to do with the refusal of Telecheck to remove your name from the unacceptable list. If you have written a few bad checks and made good on all of them, you might still not get off the list. Telecheck also uses credit reporting bureau information to make the determination. Today, everything that you do seems to reflect on your credit rating. Get a major traffic violation ticket, such as DWI, and your insurance goes up and your credit rating might go down. Most people think of checks the same way as they think of cash, however, a check is nothing more than a promise to pay upon receipt at your bank. If you have a history of bad credit, Telecheck isn't going to take that gamble. If Telecheck gives a merchant a decline check message, the merchant gives the customer a card that has the contact information on it, so you can call Telecheck to resolve the issue. Also, as a merchant, I can take the check, deposit it, and hope that it clears. If it bounces, then I, as the merchant am out the money, not Telecheck. This is why merchants rely on Telecheck, they know who's check has the best chances of being paid by the bank, and who is the habitual bad check writer.

Only the bad history is included. And how does one know removal has actually occured?

Correct.

A stellar credit rating will not help remove you from "the list". Nor can one practice safe monetary transfers to remove one from "the list".

Nor can one provide proof of funds to remove one from "the list".

So, if your a victim of identity theft, banking errors, or anything else that is outside of the "bad check", your screwed. The best hope you have is to have your bank work with them to apply pressure.

Telecheck is nothing more than a stupid computer routine locked onto one or possibly more transactions that have occured using your name. It has no means to actually verify funds availability.

I'm a merchant and I can see both sides to the telecheck issue and the "list". While there are indeed instances where someone is denied that shouldn't have been, in the majority of cases they are denied for good reason.

As for this statement, the ability to verify funds for me is a non-issue. We have several customers whom I would no longer take checks from regardless of what funds they may currently have available. Past history with me is key. If you have a history of bad checks, then this alone is enough for me to decided I'd rather not take someones check. Funds can be transfered or withdrawn with a phone call or a click of the mouse today.

One other note - if your so negative about telecheck, use a debit card. If your funds are availble, the transaction will go through, and you don't have to worry about Telecheck.

Why should I have to change the way I conduct transactions because some service has flagged my accounts? When they actually have no insight into the funds availability, nor my past credit history?

I am only negative on them when my banks tell the merchants my transactions should not be suspect, for whatever reason telecheck assumes that should be flagged.

A few of you here see it from a mechants perspective, they KNOW clients by person and past proven transaction history.

Automated services offer NO such in person proofing, and can deny service based on whatever reasoning method they choose.

I submit to you, victims of fraud evasion tactics, identity theft prevention tactics and identity theft can and ARE denied services by such automated services.

As a merchant, I have to rely on a service to protect me from bad check writers. Until you can come up with a better service, I have no choice to use that which is available. You are free to shop elsewhere, or to pay with your credit card, debit card, or cash. As long as the law states that I don't have to accept checks, I will continue to use the service and let them do what they do best. Protecting both the merchant, and the majority of the consumers that never have any problems. It always seems to be that the poeple that have the biggest problems with any credit reporting service are the ones that have the biggest credit problems in life.

I have spent hours reading to the very end of this thread, and I still don't know how Mr.Jimi came out with HD! However, it was a very interesting and informative thread.
