Getting witnesses are tough, I am sure that people that work for HD are not going to want to testify and all they have to say is that they were really busy and they just dont remember him. That would be very hard to prove that they were not telling the truth.

Of course you are right on that, but my point is that HD will not want to pay the salaries of 5 or 6 witnesses for 3-4 hours of travel and court time.

Mr Jimi may be out $1000.

But I still think Small Claims Court is his best chance for recovery.

The moral of the story, to me, is never pay for an in-stock item until you are ready to actually pick it up.

The random formatting and coloring you used in your post makes it unreadable and useless. Why do you do this?
But these are your doors. They cannot increase the price on anything that don't belong to them.
Computers are more real than reality.
But there is no excuse for not completely checking the customers claim out!
Donating a S1000 worth of plywood is going way above and beyond the call of duty don't you think?
If a receipt isn't proof of a transaction then what is?
I can see your point here to a certain extent, but on the other hand a customer should not have to hire an armed guard to protect his property while he's gone especially from pilferage of it by the business he purchased it from.
If it's his it's his an the store has no business messing with it.

Double amen.
HMM comp says 5 and none, and now says 0 and there are 8.
He "overrode; whatever and I headed out with the doors. Only to be stopped, and asked for the receipt.
then they said that the price had increased $10 a door.
1*But these are your doors. They cannot increase the price on anything that don't belong to them.
It is not highly unlikely at all, and it happens often at large stores. I've gone to (unnamed) home improvement stores several times to purchase things. Large things like boards, sheet rock, plywood, large storage containers, motor oil, etc... They tell me they don't have them. I point to them on the shelf, way up high in forklift land.
They check the computers and it shows none in stock. There's a hundred of them right there!
2*Computers are more real than reality.
it would be nice if the Manager would just take his word but I am sure that could threaten his job if he is wrong.
3*But there is no excuse for not completely checking the customers claim out!
We all have a responsibility to do what we can to reduce the risk of fraud with those who we do business with now days, We should not expect trust to be a given in our dealings any longer. No more handshake deals
4*Donating a S1000 worth of plywood is going way above and beyond the call of duty don't you think? what ever happened to the expression the customer is always wrong or is it the customer is never right?
The Manager/Store is only dealing with the situation as they should and one would expect them to deal with it lacking any proof of the transaction.
5*If a receipt isn't proof of a transaction then what is?
I could no more fault HD in this than I could you if I showed up at your house and told you that someone that answered the door yesterday took my money for one of the 2 thousand or so identical widgets you have for sale and I am here to pick it up now. No, I have no proof I did not pick it up yesterday (as you know I should) but hay trust me its only a $1000 Bucks!
6*I can see your point here to a certain extent, but on the other hand a customer should not have to hire an armed guard to protect his property while he's gone especially from pilferage of it by the business he purchased it from.
Mr. Jimi shouldn't have to fight for his stuff, even if the paperwork is incorrect.
7*If it's his it's his an the store has no business messing with it.

I was wrong. The formatting and colors were not the problem.

Dear Mr. Larry Brown,

In regards to your replies, I find them outstanding works of comprehensive assessment of the situation. I have read your responses to the different replies to this thread, and I couldn't agree with your more. You have an absolute grasp of the situation and a perspective that is very insightful. In fact, you understand this situation better than most of the other members that have posted. You are more real than reality. You have shown us the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for your insightful assessment and help.

To further explain the problem (best as I can by reading the posts).
He bought $1500 of merchandise. He loaded his truck with $500 of un-named merchandise, and found there was no room for the 36 sheets of 3/4" plywood costing $1000 and left them at the store for his second trip. What happened beyond this is still not perfectly clear to me.

Just to clarify on the doors I bought. Yes They were 'paid' for four or five weeks prior. But the ones that were ordered hadn't arrived a t the HD yet, yet they had the identical stock number doors in stock and for sale.
In other words they filled their stock ahead of the prepaid doors I had ordered.
I know some will say a slip or whatever. and thats fine. But I would think you would fill the ordered ones before you set them out for the general public.
I spent nearly an hour with them to get them to "switch; my ordered doors with the ones that were sitting 'in stock' at the store, which they did finally.
To me it seems a no-brainier. they weren't loosing a thing.
Oh, and I didn't have the truck then either, The guy asked what I wanted done, I said these two 'in stock' doors to 'replace' the two that were pre paid and ordered , but still "em route".
He was very good about it, Had someone load them on a flatbed, and had them waiting down front. (GREAT JOB ON HIS PART).
I returned with the truck, showed the paper work yet again to the special services person, and she said your all set,
I start to well two doors on the cart out, and a person comes up to me yet again and wants the receipt.
I showed it, and she 'scanned; it. thats when she said the price had gone up. I told here that these were pre-paid over 4 weeks prior, and that was not my problem I OWNED them.
Mind you I'm not into this for about 2 hours, so I just kept on a going.
And two people in the lot asked if they could help me load.
I cant say I was upset with HD. Its how they do things. Too many people involved, if they had the manager just do it, and assist me to the lot there wouldn't be trouble.
But as I said thats what you get from the big stores. They are so organized, that its more profitable to have 3 or 4 people deal with it than one.
My last few doors were ordered online direct from cloplay, and shipped to my door, no fuss, at all the truck driver cell phoned me and came with them.
Dont blame the workers they only follow procedure set byt he Big shots.

I checked the prices at HD on two garage doors and then got prices from some local companies. Once company came in with a price that was $400 more than buying the doors at HD, but that was an installed price. I went with the local company. The 3 other local garage door dealers all came in way higher for the installed price. The difference I learned was the fellow that did the job gave me a "builders" price, whereas the others were quoting "home owner" prices.
