Dear Mr. Larry Brown,

In regards to your replies, I find them outstanding works of comprehensive assessment of the situation. I have read your responses to the different replies to this thread, and I couldn't agree with your more. You have an absolute grasp of the situation and a perspective that is very insightful. In fact, you understand this situation better than most of the other members that have posted. You are more real than reality. You have shown us the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for your insightful assessment and help.

The moral of the story, to me, is never pay for an in-stock item until you are ready to actually pick it up.

If I done that I would be out at least $1,000. I used the Will Call process at HD. It allowed me to get 10% off EVERYTHING I bought at HD to put in my new house. The process took some time but there is soooo much paper work the only way to get ripped off that I could see was to sign off that you picked up something when you had not.

The other nice thing about a Will Call is that you can have HD get the items for you which saves you lots of time. You show up, check the load, pay for it, and you are out of there. It sure beats running around the store on YOUR time picking the stuff up.

The pain with the Will Call is the paper work. Paper all over the place. Seems like I was constantly signing paperwork.

Later,
Dan

I was wrong. The formatting and colors were not the problem.

That was good of you to step forward and admit to that.:)

The reason the employee wanted me to "order' and prepay for the door was to assure that when they got an "order" "in" that I would be the first one to get the two.
Obviously that didn't happen.

The special order system at many stores leaves a lot to be desired. If they have a special order on a product and a stock order coming in also, they might both arrive on the same truck, and other times, it can be weeks away. They should have checked to see what was coming and then had you pre pay for one of those doors instead of doing a special order. The stock order is placed with a freight allowance usually, where as a special order, the full freight is charged. Unfortunately, not all employees understand these types of situations, and therein lies the problem. Occasionally there is even a manager that doesn't fully understand the stocking methods used for the various departments. There is no rhyme or reason why one HD has a good inventory policy and another has a poor one. It is all controlled by the store manager. Some store managers try to keep inventory low in relationship to sales, so they look like they have faster turns of product. Others don't like to run out of product, so they stock the store with more product. Same for the department managers. That is why two stores in the same chain, in close proximity to each other, with two different management styles can have people favoring one over the other.

well I will post later on today how well the leaving stuff idea works at Lowes
I bought the lumber for my new garage last night. I took the 160 pieces of 2/4 on my trailer and I am going back today to get the 80 sheets of plywood that I paid for.

I was very pleased with lowes service. I went up to a couple of guys in the wood section said I needed a bunch of lumber handed them the list. They said we will get it together and page you when ready. I went back to the millwork section and said I need two doors they showed me what I wanted I picked them out and the guy said he would load them and put them by the front register. I went to get all new locks for all the outside doors in my house and the guy there helped me find everything I wanted. I went up to the front and paid for everything. I pulled my truck up by the loader door and the guys that got my lumber loaded everything on my trailer all I did was to strap it down and they offered to help with that. I also had gotten a bid job price on my order which was 10 per cent off. I had them call a manager and explained what I had done but that I did not want to get everything at once because I did not have a place to store it. He told me they usually liked to do everything at once but he did not have a problem giving me my discount.

There might be places that give better service than that. But I am extremely pleased.

The random formatting and coloring you used in your post makes it unreadable and useless. Why do you do this?

I think the colors kind of bring a more festive air to this thread!

Amen brother. We have a horror story of ordering carpet through a big box store. Two contractors refused to deal with the store because of pricing and installation issues. My SO finally went down to the store late one night to rectify and educate them. Numerous hours later, she tells me via the phone, they are still open for business AND she has numerous people working on it.

Bottom line: Four or five "managers" had to override computer settings to honor price, inventory, delivery and installation dates.

IMHO a total fiasco of undertrained employees who do NOT understand the TOTAL system or process of sales and customer satisfaction.

Interesting on carpet, when you buy from HD they sell it by the yard or square foot. One number turns out to be more...Dont remember which. but you need to pay the lesser or the two.
This would only come into play when you buy a large amount. Like 40 or 50 feet of carpet.
Its minute, but adds up when thy get the higher price form everyone.
I don't think its deceptive..... Its just how it plays out when you calculate it out .000000000 etc
