Warning to dog owners

Had a friend with a deaf dalmatian , smart dog , trained to hand signals . Then she told me the dogs name , I was whats the point with a name the dog is deaf . She just gave me that look and said I named him anyway .
Ha! Reminds me of the old "What do you call a dog with no legs?" joke.

I used to have a boxer girl that could hear my wife's truck turn onto the gravel road, almost a mile away! She would run to the window, bark, and a couple minutes later, the wife would come into view. She seldom ever barked at all.

Speaking of shock collars and dogs doing inexplicable things...my buddy's neighbours have a pair of dogs, both female, that have lived together for years without incident. Just recently though they went at each other in all out battle and severely injured each other. They had to use shovels to separate them. It was mentioned they have an invisible fence with shock collars on both dogs and have them turned up to maximum output and I was wondering if they thought the shocks they were receiving were somehow because of the other dog and decided it was time to settle it in the way dogs do?

I've can't recall hearing about two dogs getting into a potentially to the death fight when they've lived together incident free for years. Any ideas?

I've heard that two females are more likely to get into serious fights compared to two males or one of each. It's not unknown. Dog's personalities and relationships based on physical health can change over time.

My dog knew when her shock collar was dead. When it was charged up you never had to shock her because she listened. When it was dead she didn't listen.

I've had dogs all my life and never had a shock collar on one. I've just had them under voice control and have even been able to call the current dog off of a rabbit when on full sprint and within 5' of the rabbit. The rabbit was headed for the county road and looked scroungy anyway.

A shock collar is like a hearing aid for dogs.

I had a rottie that would fuss when a motorcycle would cruse by the road some 800-900 feet down the hill from our house we had at the time. One thing I learned long ago is when you have a dog that shows alarm over a certain person, let it go. Never, I repeat, never try to negate the dogs feelings. Just seperate the dog from the person they have triggered on and let it go. Keep some distance in the future is all.

I have rescue boxer that came from a drug bust. I knew that up front when I took him but I was not prepared for his "quirck". When he is in his fenced in yard, I cannot approach him or go in, he will bite me? Yet, he loves me to death inside like most boxers. I can leash and walk him no problem. Some dogs have some issues that you need to work around.

This happened to me, two females, my 14 year old basenji mix was attacked by my 12 year old pitt/chow just out of the blue. I had to shoot the chow to get her off but the damage was done. I lost two dogs in a day. I still cannot figure out what caused it. Ill never get more then one dog and never a pitt or chow. We have one golden doodle now and that dog is amazing.
