My experience with many bird dogs is the males will sort out who is dominant. Females have a harder time doing this.
I had two female short hairs that would fight to the death it appeared. I just kept them separated and never hunted them together. They had about 5 nasty fights and I got bit in two of them. It was a bad situation but individually they were good dogs.
