Was told my tractor was almost worthless

Scotman:

Your tractor appears in excellent shape shape. I agree with all the previous posters :D! I maintained my 12.5A's with a tractor smaller than yours- a Ford 1100 4WMFWD with 13/11 HP. I ran 4' attachments with no real difficulties (unless I created them ). Keep your tractor and use it safely and well. Jay :)

I stopped by an AG implement dealer today to see if I could find a 4' shredder for my JD650. I posted about this purchase in another thread.

The dealer told me that this tractor is so small that it will not do anything well and suggested that it wouldn't even be able to handle a 4' shredder very well. I'm a bit down. I planned on running the shredder and getting a small box blade to maintain about 75 feet of gravel drive. I also planned on using it to hoist the occasional log onto my lumber mill.

I would appreciate any feedback from someone who has used a tractor this size. Is it truly too small to be of any use?

I know NOTHING about tractors. I know this one is green and runs perfect. It's been garaged its whole life. I've got $2400 including new brakes, oil, anti-freeze and seat.

Here's a picture of my little tractor.

Check out this blog. Some folks hook up a 4 ft brush hog to a 650

Your 650 was made between 1981 and 1988. It's average dealer trade in value ranges from $1300-1700. The average used resale value (what dealer's get on a resale) ranges from $2400-3100.

Should you decide that dealer is right, and you start to agree that your tractor is worthless, give me a shout. I'd love to have that "worthless" little machine! I've got a soft spot in my heart for good used, low priced, quality tractors. That one'll do most anything a NEW tractor will do and do it WITHOUT blasting your wallet apart at the seams.

Salesmen.....99% of them give the rest of 'em a bad name.

These tractor salemen with say anything to get you to spend your money in their dealership.

Don't believe what he said, of course you can run a 4' shredder.

Sometimes I am amazed at what these little tractors can do. My son is putting out wildlife plots for a summer income so we ordered a 5 1/2 disk because we were told we could not pull a 6 1/2 disk. When the disk came in it was 6 1/2 ft. We did not have time to wait on them to order another one so we took it home and the 755 2wd handled it well. I am glad we did not get the one we ordered. I went through the same thing when I bought a 56 inch tiller and I am completely satisfied with the way it handles it. I would say you would be fine with your 650 and what you want to do with it. And like FWJ said if you decide it is worthless call me, it would be a good second tractor to go with my worthless 755.

I had the same tractor Jay had, and I can give you a list of people that were skeptical of it either before they saw it or before they saw it work. I had one guy clearing a lot with a 12hp Snapper mower and I told him I would bring my 13 Ford mower out to help him. I cleared the lot in a couple hours and he still brags on that little tractor 15 years later.

I ran a 4' bush hog behind it. I also have a friend running a 13 hp Kubota and has a 5' finish mower behind it. Works great also.

:) :) :) must ov used that fine tractor to mower the football field after every Penn State victory cause down here in Lous---anna that thing would not have any paint or tires left on it----just picking. Isn't it against the law to steal??? go give that man you bought it from an extra $2000.00

I easily ran a NH 9' hay mower and a JD 14T hay baler with one. Easily ran a 5' bush hog and a 5' yanmar rototiller. Post holer digger, 1/3 yard cement mixer. PTO generator. Yep, must be worthless.

Perhaps you need to find a more compelling dealer. Yes, parts may be scarce, but this is a Yanmar machine. Filters, hoses, and belts are all automotive. Sell it yourself or use it like a tractor instead of a lawn mower.

I have a 7' Land Pride rear discharge finish mower that the thing could easily handle. Add some suitcase weights and it can plow some snow with rear chains.

These make the perfect golf course tractor.

Good grief....

I'm not too far south of you... I'd make the trip North if you would part with it!
