waste oil burner

I don't know what kind of hydraulic fluid is .It came out of my tractor transmission on its first fifty change.
Hmmm, I think it is UTF. Low BTU value.

I ve been burning waste oil and woking on them for about 10 years and in that time I have seen burners not fire at all on hydro oil expecially virgin oil.

BTW, did I mention they make fire resistant hydraulic fluid out of PE's.

Some hydraulic oils are specifically made with a fire retardant.
Don't know which ones.

I built the Mother Earth waste oil burner when the plans were first published in their magazine, probably 30 or so years ago.
I should have tested it before buying and filling a 250 gal tank full of waste oil from the bus station across the street from my house. The only way I could keep the burner hot enough to burn the waste oil was to continually heat it with a propane torch. I just hauled the stove to the dump last month after storing out back in the brush for 30 years. I have heard of this type of heater (commercially manufactured) that work. I have also heard they are very expensive. Good luck on your project.

the thing works great with motor oil. This was the first time i used hyd oil.I couldn't for the life of me find out why this thing did't give any heat this time.Normally i have to open the garage door to cool things down.I''ll just add motor oil to the hyd oil for now until its all gone.maybe 50/50.Like i said I love free heat

why did you have to buy waste oil? around here they give it away so they don't have to get somebody to get rid of it

Why don't you add a induction fan and atomize the oil. That will give you a hotter flame and burn allot cleaner. The induction fan I use only uses 1.8 amps. I can completely control my stove's heat range with a variable speed switch and a flow control valve. I can burn from two quartz of oil per hour, up to two gallons of oil per hour (completely clean).

Also, I can burn "anything" in my stove. And that includes water. By the way, I have not cleaned my stove in two winters. I use water to clean my stove.

Would like to hear from anyone who has tried burning say small quantities of waste oil mixed in to diesel or kerosene in a more conventional stove or torpedo type heater. I'm tempted to try.

About 30 years ago, I had a wood burning stove in my shop and I rigged up a steel gravity feed drip line from the used oil reservoir to the top of the wood stove. Worked great for extra BTU and got rid of my used motor oil. Used a valve to control the flow/drip. Ken Sweet
