We got the "90 gallon" trash cans around 1981. You could load them up with many hundreds of pounds. You would only get caught overloading it if you faced it the wrong way at the curb, parked it to close to something or if the one armed loader could not lift it. Our recycle trucks use the same thing. You have 3 trash style cans. The 90 gallon is now for green waste like clippings. Then there is the recyle one that takes plastic, cans, paper etc and finally, the smallest one now that takes the usual crap. You can also put oil out on the curb in a sealed container.. We also have collection days for pesticides, paint, etc. Our oil recyle centers take a max of 5 gallons a day from a customer. I guess they figure any more hten that and your a commerical setup. Anyway, probably a whole lot more then you wanted to know, but we have done it for so long this way I have forgotten how the old way was.
