Is there a difference between crowder peas, black eyed peas and cowpeas or are they all the same thing by different names? I'd never heard of crowder peas but the photo in the link looks like black eyed peas and when I google crowder I get references to cowpeas. ????

I don't know what cowpeas are.

Black eyes and crowders are different. And, there are variations of crowders. Cream chowders are the most delicious peas I've ever had but I have to find them fresh at a farmers market or buy them from a farmer. They are almost never found in stores.

Not even close, crowder's are different than black eyes, quite a bit. Some people confuse crowder's with field peas, but they are different as well. I don't know what cowpeas are.

My interpretation is that Cowpeas is a generic word that include Black Eyed peas, Field peas, Crowder peas and others. Cowpeas seems to be a word used around the world including in Africa and India. I first head of Cowpeas reading/watching cooking books/shows about Indian cooking. I THOUGHT that Cowpeas = Black Eyed peas but that does not seem to be the case.

Talking about peas makes want to sing....

Peas, Peas, Peas, Peas, Eat'n Goober Peas! Goodness how delicious, Eat'n Goober Peas!

Goober Peas do not appear to be Cowpeas. :laughing::laughing::laughing:

At our local walmart in the frozen veggie section we can buy what are called " Butter Peas " wow are they creamy and good...then at our local Kroger store...we can buy " Ford Hook Lima Beans " Kroger store brand and they are creamy as well...just great eating. Purple hulled peas are big here as are field peas...to me crowder and black eye are about the same...kind of grainy texture which I don't really care for .

Last night for supper, had me some fried chicken gizzards, green beans w/bacon and cottage cheese with fruit cocktail. Yum, yum.

Do you eat them boiled? Very popular in NC, I like mine as is and fresh from the bottom of the vine.

Neve eaten, or even seen, a boiled peanut. I like mine roasted and salted; although in moderation...they have a very energetic effect on peristalasis and segmentation in my system. Don't care for them raw, although Sharn Jean uses a lot of them in her peanut brittle. Funny side light; my daughter and her new husband lived in Michigan, near Detroit for a couple years. We had to ship her some raw peanuts from Oklahoma for her peanut brittle. Think she had a dry spell without okra up there in Yankeeland also.

I love deep fried okra using Calabash breading as a light dusting, then dip it just a little in marinara.

Use to live in the Florida panhandle... boiled peanut stands were roadside attactions eveywhere... large kettles boiling away. Cheap snacks.

Just keep in mind ---Ever notice those boiled peanut stands on the side of the road have that big kettle boiling with those salty boiled peanuts....? Ever notice they have no bathroom there on the side of the road...? Ya ever wonder why those peanuts are so salty ? Enough said :eek::confused3:;)

Local food lyon use to sell cans of boiled peanuts. Haven't shopped at food lyon lately since a martins was built closer and newer and nicer. Boiled peanuts in a can arn't the same.

Okra is even available in Yankeeland these days. Not hard to find but not exactly one of the most popular veggies. Trouble is it doesn't fit well into traditional northern cooking. I use it in soups and stews but rarely alone. You rednecks need to do a better job exporting your recipes. Enough of Col Sanders and BBQ sauce, let's see what else you can do!
