Watcha eating?

I agree completely with 2lane and Brin, and as the idea was Don's, I guess it is appropriate to have a healthy heart section. I suggest putting the health food section right between the pork and beef bbq chapters!

I wouldn't have it any other place!:D

However, the cookbook was 2LaneCruzer's brilliant idea. He gets the credits.

I already have a recipe ready, Grandma's BBQ sauce. It is great on sausage. She lived on a FARM and this recepie is for ALL. I actually got her 1947 FARMALL A. (a stretched tractor connection, but that's OK.) I'd post a picture of the tractor and maybe of the FARMALL BBQ sauce after I make the (alternative) heart healthy version - but I'd post both for those not concerned about heart healthy (95%).

A whole chapter would have to be on sauces.

Note: They made the best mustard seed sausage and alway had some smoking in their smokehouse - and I have that recipe also - and yes Grampa died of heart disease. (but this was on my wife's side- no blood relation.)

I suggest that someone with superior computer skills volunteer to put the cookbook together. We could submit the recipes to them at their personal email or in a PM; they, in turn could come up with a format, categorize an organize the recipes and assemble the cookbook. The Administration in turn could come up with an online and/or hard copy if they so desire. I certainly do not have the skills to do so; but I'm sure there are some out there who have.

The only problem I see with this is that it will end soon. New members would not have had the opportunity share their recipes. I would like to see an ever-expanding cookbook. It will be necessary to put at least one common word in the title of the recipe that accurately describes the dish - so a search will find the recipe.

If a thread could be created with multiple levels and each level a category/chapter - that would be ideal.

All comments about the recipe should be on this thread only to keep the cookbook as uncluttered as possible. (We may have to have a key by request to keep it uncluttered) OR another level on the COOKBOOK thread that drops down as a review/rating/comments on each recipe.

Also if there could be a 0-5 star rating by each recipe by reviewers - that would be good.

Not sure if TBN can do multi level discussion levels.

There could be a thread for each food type, BBQ, Desert, Don's Heart Healthy, Bread, BEER!, veggies, etc. At the end of the year, or whenever the thread becomes too big, the thread can be locked and pinned to the top of the Cook Book forum. That way the discussion would not be buried.

We would have Bread2013, BBQ2013, Beer2013, how come everything I like starts with B?

Having comments in the thread would be nice, but not nice since it will cause clutter, which is why the mulit level idea would be good. Having ratings would be really really really good. Not sure how to do that either. :confused3: It sure would be nice to have the comments especially if someone tweaked the recipe a bit....

Dan

After following the retirement savings thread, first recipe should be "Stone Soup"

Nothing like TBN Cookbook, Vol. II.

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

This is a great TBN marketing and sale opportunity!

There should be TBN Disk Woks that can be sold with the Official TBN Cook Book. TBN can be stamped into the disk wok. The TBN Disk Wok, aka TDW, will have to be painted in tractor colors, on the outside of course. Now, the JD TDW will have to be JD green with JD yellow used to accent the rim of the TDW. The JD TDW will look the best and work the best of course.:laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan

I'm sure there are some folks on this forum that build, or have built their own BBQ smoker or grill; it's pretty common around here...they range all the way from a 55 gallon drum grill to a twin axle smoker that can handle a small herd of cattle. Maybe include a section on how to build your own smoker, grill or wok?

AaronZ had a good suggestion on the categories for each type of food on the TBN upgrade thread: 'That could be done with a new forum that had a drop down list to choose the thread prefix (ie: cookies, cake, bbg, etc). Also enable thread ratings for that forum. Then each recipe gets its own thread..."

What do you think about requesting an additional forum named TBN COOKBOOK, a thread for each type of food and a thread for cookers/pits in it also.

If I understand correctly, you're suggesting that new forum be set up so that we could post all of our recipes and information in one forum, where it is open to all the members for comment and contribution...and then have someone organize, edit and format the cookbook. This sounds like a good idea to me; that way everything posted would be available to all the members, whether they contribute or not.

My original suggestion was to appoint an "administrator" type, and have the members just PM their contributions to him, who in turn would organize, format and create the cookbook. Although this would be a less "busy" way of doing it, the members would have no idea of what had been contributed or what was lacking. In any case, if folks are serious about this, it's time to catch the ear of the boss and enlist his approval/input/suggestions/ acquiescence or rejection, such as the case may be.

I'm sure there are issues, like copyrights that will need to be considered and dealt with by the administration should they decide to go ahead.
