Batteries would overcharge and drivers would not be able to control speed and get ticketed every second street corner.
That or the batteries would boil over!

Simple solution is to tow a trailer full of batteries and hook it up to your house when you get home. Now the commute to work and the beer runs pay you back.

I built a hydrogen generator last year....cost about 75 buck to build...it DOES make highly flamable hydrogen gas...but I never hooked it up to anything once gas started diving back down to a buck fifty.

anyone with a battery, and some wire, and a couple test tubes can use electrolysis.. but the guys saying it gives you 30% more milage and 50% more power thru sopme magic catylizing process.. they are just full of used horse feed..

Eventually Fossil Fuels will be used up and the lights will go out!!!!

I have payed attention to how much world oil reserve there is in the news for the past 10 years . Couple of things concern me. One is the world reserve hasn't changed in 10 years. We are consuming more fuels as the population increases. How can the world reserve not change and consumption increase, doesn't compute.

Second thing is the refineries are at full capacity. If one refinery goes down for any unscheduled interruption economists raise the price of fuel. There is no bank of refined fuels it is used up soon as it is processed.

If any of you knew that in one year from now you would not have a job because you were to be layed off would you not plan for the future. We need another alternative to fossil fuel.

Eventually Fossil Fuels will be used up and the lights will go out!!!!

While I completely agree with the need to develop alternate energy sources, unfortunately the "water into hydrogen as you drive" concept isn't a valid solution. (There's the slight inconvenience that it takes much more energy to make the hydrogen than you gain back...)

The Supercapacitor concept is one idea for automotive power, and the Polywell fusion concept is being tested and debated. Both of these concepts don't break the laws of physics (unlike the water-into-gas malarkey).

!

Certainly this is true, but spending effort, money, and other resources on scams will just hasten the day we run out. We need to pursue logical, cost effective, and physically possible solutions.

Now if I can just adapt the idea to exercise equipment, so the people working out power the lights, I can open a chain of Eco-gyms.

No kidding. One of my coworkers had four boys all of them in about 5 years time spread. They were full of energy as most kids of preteenage years causing a lot of complaints from neigbors (They lived in small flat in an apartment building in Europe.) So he decided to find a way to get rid of some of the energy. First they tried running around the block. It worked about two weeks only as they got in very good shape and still had energy left (he slept after the run). Being elctrician he modified a bicycle adding a generator and when they wanted to watch a TV one of them had to pedal to power it.

I would just add that most people don't understand the concept of source of energy and the medium (energy storage) to transport it.
Our problem is the source. Hydrogen isn't the source it is the medium.
Natural gas or oil or coal isn't the source. It is stored sun energy from millions years ago. Super-capacitor or battery is not the source. It is the medium.
No matter how you look at it most of the energy we use today came at some point from the Sun. Wind or wave energy is transformed sun energy etc.
In long term we, as humans, will depend on the Sun and perhaps nuclear energy. Our problem is overpopulation. I just read somewhere that by 2010 two thirds of people ever born on this planet will be alive. If you want to see what overpopulation does to a country go to India or some countries in Africa. Been there.

And to add to that, NO conversion is 100% efficient. A gasoline engine only converts about 33% of the thermal energy it consumes into torque. An auto alternator only converts about 50-60% of the torgue energy it receives from the engine into DC current. There is also some lost in the form of heat/friction going from crankshaft pully to belt to alternator pully. Most electric generators are only about 85-90% efficient at turning torque into 60HZ AC current. Most AC inverters are only about 90% efficient at turning DC current into 60HZ AC current. Most batteries only charge/discharge at about 90+% efficiency because this is a chemical conversion process. IE: you need to put in 105-110 AH to get 100AH back out. Hydrogen produced thru electrolosys and then passed thru a fuel cell to make electricity is only about 12-24% efficient overall depending on the power source used to make the hydrogen...
