Water Hauling Trailer

You are going to want the ball hitch for that size trailer. Almost all of the truck and hitch manufacturers are going to require a Weight Distribution hitch to get to the full GVWR of the trailer. You cannot use one with a pintle hitch. Pintel hitches are more commonly used by medium duty dump trucks and equipment trailers. They also tend to have a lot of slop so you get some jarring when you start and stop.

I would go ball. Pintle bang around too much for my taste.

X2 on the pintle hitch. The trailer will tow much better with the ball setup. I have a PJ F8 and love it. I would recommend getting atleast a 20'er though because you need more length at times to balance the weight out. Mine is 20' and I wish it was 24'. If I could do it all over Id get a 24'er with monster ramps to make loading easier but still have a flat deck.

That is a pretty looking trailer.

I'm doing a little math in my head and a 1000 gallons of water will weigh a little over 8000 lbs. I'm not sure how much an imperial gallon is, but I thought it was a little more than a U.S. gallon. If you have a 7000 lb trailer, that's 7000 lbs including the weight of the trailer. This puts you over weight by about 2500 lbs. If you aren't going very far over smooth road, you might be O.K.

The trailer I am looking at buying has a 14,000 lb rating. One imperial gallon of water weighs exactly ten pounds. Yesterday I had the 500 gallon tank on a 7000 lb car hauler trailer. I pulled it over my dads truck scales and the trailer axle pair had 7062 lbs on them.

You had it maxed out.

Nice that you have scales to use.

Hi all. I am thinking about hauling my own water to my home instead of paying for deliver and was looking for input onto my different options.

Just curious...Will you have any issues with the water sloshing around in the tank? I know tanker trucks have baffles in them to reduce this effect otherwise the tow vehicle can get pushed around by the liquid moving.

If filled to the top it doesn't slosh bad at all. It actually pulled way smoother than I expected.

I am in the minority but I like pintle hitches easy to hook up positive latch system and able to handle more abuse. I have never used a weight distribution hitch, but usually I am able to get my trailers load balance the way I like them or I use a gooseneck trailer.
I was in your same boat with the water hauling I got a 1600 gal tank to put on my gooseneck. I don't need water other than during gardening season. So a big tank works good for me. And its only $13 to fill it on my schedule.
