I wonder how much that Duramax/Allison combo weighed compared to a 427/454-T400 combo? Must have been nose heavy...

I'm more of a Mopar guy; could just imagine a Roadrunner/Cummins combo :D

Quit it! Your making me have expensive thoughts!! I saw that article. He drag raced and road raced it. Amazing. I will put up a few pics this evening.

Very nice Ryan. The Chevelle has always been my favorite GM Muscle car.

I remember seeing that Dmax Chevelle on a TV show with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was very expensive to build but was done to put in a show like Sema or something. It ran on Bio-Diesel. Thats what the story was really about.

As far as the weight I bet its 400# more than a big block.

A quick google brought it up; claimed had $250k in to it. That car was all custom frame ect to handle the motor and torque.

I would be willing to bet that the intake gaskets are not sealing the water crossovers at the ends of the cylinder heads. When you are using 40 year old parts, often sourced from different people, it is very easy to end up with a mis matched intake and head combo, as many times over the years the heads have been resurfaced. If heads are milled on a v8, the intake must also be machined on the bottom to compensate for the heads sitting a little lower. Many times, thicker intake gaskets must also be used. When buying parts second, third, fourth hand etc, it is often hard to get reliable info from the seller as to how much machine work has been done over the years. Post up some pics of that chevelle !!!
Here is a crappy phone pic of my 71 SS

Here are a few pics. It is dusty from sitting in the barn. It is a Malibu, not SS. It is straight 2 owner very little rust. I have owned it 15 years and all body work is done. Need to finish the interior, trim and other cosmetics.

That should be one nice car when you get it finished up. It is getting hard to find them straight with little rust, definately a find. I have also had mine for 15 years, I bought it as a basket case and restored it. I'll bet you can't wait to get it out and blow that dust off of it.

My 3 year old daughter loves to cruise in mine. We go to the local cruise every summer Friday weather permiting. I welded in car seat anchors on the rear floor just like the new cars have. There is an toddler car seat secured to the center of the back seat at all times LOL. Here she is showing off for the camera. When the pic was taken, she was doing her best wound up big block chevy going through the gears sound impersination.

Mine is 3700 with an iron headed big block, muncie, non A/C, manual steering W/hinged Glass hood. I would bet the Dmax Allison would add 1,000 lbs to the car when you consider the increased trans, and engine weight, not to mention the intercooler, radiator, electronics, extra fluid capacities etc. As for the Roadrunner with Cummins power, I hate seeing a nice classic hacked up to sell magazines.

The car used to be on the road until 4 years ago. I drove it twice a month or so. My best memory was right after i put the motor in. I broke it in and took a buddy for a test drive. He said it felt strong. I came to a stop, stalled up and hit it. The passenger seat broke and his feet hit the roof. We had a good laugh. That little 327 is surprising, especially in a heavy car.

Not that surprising. When I was a kid, my parents had a '63 Impala SS327 4spd. Parents got it in '64 when I was a year old. I remember being 8 or 9 years old, riding with my Mom and Aunt. They would just giggle and blow peoples doors off when challenged. My Mom could launch that car and power shift that 4spd very well.

For a large body car with a smallblock, that car would move out!

I can just imagine how the '63/64 car would have run with a 409. Consider too those Super Stock Mopar's were similar size; they flew with 426 max wedges...

With a match cam/stall converter/rear gears, I imagine that 327 Chevelle will get up and scoot!

It does. My cam is smallish, 272 duration, .427/.442 lift. It has small valve 1.94/1.50 iron heads shaved .015, an edelbrock performer intake, edelbrock 600cfm carb and stock hei ignition. The block is bored .060 and has 4 valve relief pistons. I have a 1500 stall, turbo350 & 4.11 gears. I need to tune it and set the timing again.
